Latest Beauty Trends @ Beauty Asia’s 19th Trade Exhibition for Beauty, Spa & Health

Hi Loves!

As a beauty enthusiast, I couldn’t miss the offer for a preview tour of Beauty Asia, a B2B tradeshow when it was here in Singapore, Suntec back in early Jan. I met up with Leanne for the tour and we met Vinna who was attending to a booth during the fair. One of Leanne’s favourite was Hakuhodo, a Japanese brush brand. I was fascinated with the Korean salmon roe luxurious golden eye patch, we also tried rose extract and checked out the self care radiofrequency treatment by Habalan which is apparently really popular in Korea… this technology is apparently not available to the mass consumers in Singapore yet! We were also quite impressed with Cailyn (nope, not Caitlyn as in Caitlyn Jenner), a new US makeup brand and of course the elaborate nail art artworks during the competition was quite remarkable too.

DEPRESSION introduced their SS 2015 collection titled “Inner Demons” to much applause at Digital Fashion Week 2014. I love the womenswear in this very street style chic collection and would totes wear all of them out. DEPRESSION is arguably Singapore’s most recognisable local label and that is undoubtedly testament to the super duo Kenny & Andrew’s talent in story telling, persistent and unending efforts in introducing compelling collections every season and cross promotions with brands and celebrities. New and inspiring local designers and labels should definitely study them as a role model on how to succeed in SG and beyond. It is thus definitely well deserved that they are included in the SG50 book as one of the pride and representative of local brand and talents. Sometime back, Fenny invited me to attend Longchamp’s special Sarah Morris collection launch at their ION outlet. Sarah Morris is an abstract print designer and together with Longchamp, they created a series of bags with her prints and limited edition colours. I’m not sure if they’re still in stock, lol cause I’m posting this about half a year later, oops! Since Longchamp bags are so common nowadays, it’s nice for them to release LE bags which are more unique. Anyhoos, it was really fun attending the launch with Fenny and we had salad for dinner at Watami after! 😛 x

Internships: Get Paid To Pick Up Essential Skills & Knowledge

Last week I blogged about my part time job experience, read it here if you haven’t. 😉 Today, I’d like to share about my internship singapore experiences.

When I was in LASALLE, I wanted to know as much as I could about the Fashion industry in Singapore and I realized that the way I could do so was by applying and getting an internship with a local fashion company. Over the course of 2010-2012, I took up several internship / paid positions with various companies; including a backstage stint with Blueprint Fashion Tradeshow, as well as an admin and accounts assistant with Club21, a multi-label retailer in Singapore.

Through these internships in singapore, I got to meet many local designers of local brands, such as Depression and Revasseur and international brands such as Timo Weiland. I also learnt first hand that the cliche is completely true: Fashion is a lot of glitter and glam on stage and on camera, but it’s a lot of hard work, grit, sweat, long hours behind the scenes and many years before you see the light of day as an established designer/brand/marketer.

Many people always ask me how I ended up in the real estate industry as a property agent when I was studying Fashion Media & Industries in LASALLE. And it’s no secret, really. The reason is because my friend Valerie’s recommended me for a marketing internship with a local real estate developer company, back in 2011 when I was still studying and that opened the doors for me into the property world.

It was during my internship as a marketing intern at property show flats that exposed me to the world of property sales. I quickly learnt how property agents build rapport with their clients and qualify their client; if they were eligible to buy executive condominiums and if they had sufficient funds to purchase such a big ticket item as a condominium.

Of course I also learnt how incredible the potential financial reward was for a property agent, and more so for a property developer. I learnt and saw how so many different people and departments came together for a single project: developer marketing team, outsourced marketing team, architects, landscaping team, bankers and property agents. It was this world of business and sales that attracted me to join as property agent.

A lot of people spend time wondering how some people get their feet into the door of a certain company or get the opportunity to that coveted job, and the secret is this: many singapore internship opportunities are disguised as work – if you’re willing to work for little to nothing, you’ll be sure to find many opportunities coming your way.

Delicious Meals Without The Wait

Today I’m very excited to be sharing about Food Panda~!

In case you haven’t heard or tried Food Panda before, you’ll be glad to know about them now! Food Panda is an awesome online/mobile service where you can order from an array of restaurants that provide delivery to your local address based on your postcode.

You can order to your home, office, friend’s home or wherever life/work takes you to, as long as the location is recognised and food is deliverable there (don’t blame me if your location is too obscure! :p).

Based on the postcode you input, Food Panda will show you the list of restaurants nearby which will deliver to your choice of location. From my place, there’s a whole list of 42 restaurants, impressive!

And the best part is, you can order in advance so your meal is delivered during your meal time! Awesome isn’t it?

I decided on Hui Wei, which is a Tze-Char (stir fried) place which has 3.5stars based on 143 ratings. Thanks to my sister Jia Hui for doing her research (I outsourced this task to her, hehe) and she decided on these few delicious dishes!

Stir Fried Kai Lan with Oyster Sauce

Thai Style Honey Chicken – this is totally yums. Thumbs up!

Mei Ren Yu (Mermaid) which is fried eggplant and it’s seriously addictive. This is a highly raved dish and it did not disappoint. Highly recommended too. I recommend Food Panda service for your next family or friend’s party or gathering! With this, you can save time on preparing your meal, you can even get your guests to look through the menu and order dishes to suit their liking and enjoy the meal in the comfort of your own home / private location~ ! The only downside is the minimum $50 order (for Hui Wei) for delivery, however if you’re ordering for a party of 8 or more, this won’t be an issue. 😉

Part Time Job: Have Fun & Get Paid To Find Out If You’re Suited For The Job

Hi Loves!

I’ve told a few friends and juniors before, I had the privilege to know what jobs I liked and what jobs I didn’t like before I graduated and starting working, all because I took up internships and part time jobs in singapore during my school holidays.

My earliest memory of working during my school holidays was helping out at the stationary & book store in my secondary school. My friend Eunice and I would go back to school during school holidays for about 2 weeks to pack textbooks and help the bookshop auntie and uncle to sell them to our schoolmates. It wasn’t that difficult or tiring, in fact it was quite fun since when I was working together with my friend and the bookshop auntie was super nice! We even get paid and if my memory doesn’t fail me, that’s also how I partially funded my IPod (my kind parents paid the other half). If making your holidays fruitful and having fun with your friend at work isn’t something that motivates you, perhaps the income will.

Recently I reunited over lunch with the very nice bookshop Aunty Xiao Yan after 10 years!

It’s because I started working in my secondary school days that I know the value of every dollar earned. And of course, it’s working part time at the school bookshop that made me know that even though it’s an easy job, it’s not something that I’d want to do for the rest of my life. It’s working part time in retail that motivated me to try out different jobs (admin, accounts, marketing, yes I did all of these while still studying) and find out what jobs I did enjoy and would consider pursuing as a career.

Even though some of the fashion and beauty events I attend nowadays are very glitzy and glamorous, I’m actually still pretty low maintenance in real life (sans sponsored facials and branded skincare & makeup, keke). I’m sure glad that I took up part time jobs for students when I was still studying as it helped me to be more grounded about life and work.

If you’re still studying, or considering a career switch, I’d definitely encourage you to consider taking up part time jobs singapore opportunities, to find out if you suit the job, if it’s something you’d enjoy and have the passion to make a career out of!

Fashion Stylist Keith Png’s Tips for Different Body Types

Keith Png held a fashion demo giving tips for different body types at Tommy Hilfiger for their FW collection (I know I know, this is a #superbelatedblogpost T_T#) and I was really pretty inspired after the demo!

The charming Keith Png and the various outfits and accessories to complete the session~

A preppy chic male outfit~

Keith styling the model with a scarf – a little accessory goes a long way! Also, he shared that pear shaped women should use a clutch strategically over the waist area during events and photo-taking to give a slimmer silhouette! I love this tip!

Pear-shaped women should also dress with dark bottoms and brighter or patterned tops, just like the outfit he picked out above.

Another tip Keith shared was to use bags that are wider instead of longer, because it completes the overall look better – plus from personally experience, wider bags are more functional!

One more tip for women who would like to have a fuller bust, is to wear outfits that have more details in the front as well as to accessorise with a belt and emphasise on a small/er waist.

I like Jete Pink and En Haute Pink cause I am naturally drawn to pinks as they are more wearable for daily use and I shall stop obsessing over dark pinks (the Arabesque Pink which I have 101 similar colours at home)! This collection of lipsticks are more matte in texture and thus not as moisturizing as the typical Dear My Wish Lips Talk collection. BUT OH SO CUTE CASING. I have this urge to go and buy another lipstick (after visiting the new store 2 times in 3 days) just because, you know, cute casing. SIGH. #lipstickobsession #suckerforcutepackaging

I like the Eye & Cheek blusher in this no3. Arabesque Rosy too!

SO, my second time in the store on Sunday, I GOT THE LAST Eye & Cheek in no.5 in En Haute Pink. LAST PIECE = DESTINY. (Even thought I quite clearly liked no.3 the first time I went. Girls.)

I forgot to snap a picture of the brush sample, but the brush from this collection is also out of stock! So fans will have to hope and wait for restock, if any!

There’s 2 sets of nail colours for this collection too! I picked out the Peach set. 🙂

Today I want to share about GLAMGLOW’s PowerMud Dual Cleanse Treatment, which I was introduced to when they launched at Escentials (a long time back, #blogdebt, hurrr)!

GlamGlow Masks are created by husband and wife team Glenn and Shannon Dellimore, it’s supposedly originally designed for exclusive professional backstage use in Hollywood and was only made available to consumers worldwide in 2011.

The introduction of GlamGlow PowerMud comes after their YouthMud (Tingling and Exfoliating treatment), SuperMud (Clearing treatment) and ThirstyMud (Hydrating treatment). They also have a BrightMud Eye treatment~

Food & HicJuice – raw organic and cold pressed drink, super yummy!

The GlamGlow PowerMud. It’s a mix of both Claymud and Teaoxi aka green tea Oil so it promises to – cleanse, nourish, detox, purify and renew – deeply yet gently cleanses the skin. It smells amazing because of fragrant plant extracts which includes apple, so I really love the smell of the mask itself and when its on my skin. There will be an initial warmth feel after application but it does not get irritable. After removal, skin feels velvety smooth. I left the mask on for 20 minutes and removed it with running water quite easily even though it dried on my face. It doesn’t feel like it soaks up the oil and dirt and cleanse my face like other clay masks I’ve tried because of the oil extract, so it feels more gentle and nourishing. The downside of the mask is its high price point, at more than $90 per bottle.Thank you Leanne for the invite to the launch and thanks to Escentials for hosting us and the samples for review! 🙂

Basically, it’s an award given to up and

As of today, I have less than 200 (198 to be exact! :P) blog followers on my blog, according to WordPress. I won’t really consider myself as an “up and coming” blogger since this is my 5th year of blogging, but I really appreciate this nomination and even though I procrastinated soooo long, I want to pass on this Liebster Award and love to other bloggers too! 😀

1. What made you start your beauty blog?

I started Enabalista in end 2010 when I was still a Fashion Media & Industries (Management) student in LASALLE and wanted to share my behind the scenes photos and review of Fashion Week in Singapore. Then I also decided to include skincare reviews when I signed up to receive and review products from Sample Store. Although I have since stopped reviewing products sent from Sample Store (I had a clause that I could only review a certain’s brand products when I was representing them as their digital ambassador), that was I started my Lifestyle; Fashion, Beauty & more blog. 🙂

2. What are 3 of your must-have beauty items?

1. CC Cushion Compact – Laneige or TheFaceShop Sunscreen Cushion (the colour matches my skin to a T)

2. Lip Balm – Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour

3. Lipstick – current favourites include MAC’s Huggable collection, Etudehouse’s Liquid Lips, L’Oreal’s Colour Riche and Laneige Duo Colour Lip bar.

1. Kose Sun Protect Essence Gel
2. Bioderma Sensibio Makeup Remover
3. Moisturizer for Day and Night, I use several brands, right now I’m trying out Orbis’ Clear Range M Moisturizer.

4. What is one beauty step you have to take everyday before you leave the house (filling in your brows/your cat-eyes)?

Definitely putting on moisturizer and sunblock. That’s 2 steps, I know. 😛

5. What would your dream job be and why?

Business owner, selling products, bringing joy to others and earning money even while I am on my holiday (the business doesn’t stop when I’m travelling)! 😀

So I grew up believing that nothing; not youth, not inexperience can stop anyone to be the best they can be. I grew up believing that if a person puts her heart, mind and soul into her goal, she can achieve it. 🙂

Dessert after dinner for sure!

8. Is there a make up step that you’re completely FAIL at? (hahaha! that would be falsies for me)

I’m not really good with Mascaras and Falsies! I don’t apply them often, so I take super long, 15-30 minutes to put them on.

9. Long hair or short hair?

Currently Long. 🙂

10. Would you rather lose all of your make up or skincare items?

This is a tough one! I have a lot more makeup products than skincare items, because I usually use up my skincare products as I use them on a almost daily basis, while I use my makeup products on a rotation basis. I will have to go with, I rather lose my skincare items and I will buy the few important products I use on a daily basis. 😛

Why Is Singapore such a magnet for influential businesses?

Today I have an interesting article to share on my blog. Read on to find out the history and how Singapore came to become a magnet for influential businesses, enjoy! 🙂

For the past nine years, the Economist Business Unit has voted Singapore the world’s best place to do business. But what has made it such a magnet for companies from all corners of the globe?

Historically, Singapore’s geographical location was strategically important. Sir Stamford Raffles established a British East India trading post here in 1819. For the British, the city-state became both a trading center and key naval base, essential to maintaining control of its vast empire.

In more recent times, as international trade began to flourish, the government of Singapore took steps to capitalize on the state’s historical position as a hub for trade, not only within Asia, but also globally. In the 1960s, the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) was formed and tasked with attracting international businesses to the country. The next step was for the EDB to persuade foreign investors to help fund the establishment of export oriented businesses by first setting up offices in New York and Hong Kong, and later in Europe, Asia and the US.

With Singapore’s reputation for its reliable and skilled workforce, the EDB went on to raise global awareness of Singapore’s technological expertise by establishing links with Japanese, French and German technical institutions. The government, the EDB and the National Research Foundation have together been extremely successful in identifying new trends and technological developments in global commerce, international banking and finance and have continued to ensure the country possesses the expertise and infrastructure necessary to take maximum advantage of them.

By investing heavily in infrastructure projects and encouraging the construction of world-class hotels, retail centers and high quality housing, the government has also attracted highly skilled professionals and international entrepreneurs to settle here and establish locally based high-tech companies. The importance of persuading influential business leaders to relocate to the country cannot be underestimated. The mere fact that people of this stature have chosen to move here sends out a strong message to the rest of the world that Singapore is a great place to live and do business in. Words and phrases you commonly hear to describe the country include diverse, safe, multicultural, low taxes, cutting edge, relaxed and stable.

Typical of the businessmen and women who have taken up residence in the state is Kuwait born and University of Washington educated Fahad Al-Rajaan. Chairman of Wafra Investments Group Inc. and Kuwait Real Estate Investment Consortium KSC, along with a number of other banks and financial institutions, he is ideally placed to spread the word about the benefits of investing in Singapore. Two of the wealthiest individuals you may have heard of are brothers Robert and Philip Ng, whose Far East Organization and Sino Group is worth some US$4.6b. Their multinational business encompasses property development in Australia and Hong Kong, though they are currently investing US$328m in two new hotels on an ex-military barracks site on Sentosa.

Another name you may be familiar with is the Brazilian born co-founder of Facebook, Eduardo Saverin. Having renounced his US citizenship in 2012, he now lives here in Singapore, where he specializes in investing in international technology startup ventures.

Singapore has not become a world class financial and business center entirely by accident. A natural harbor located at the crossroads of global maritime trading routes was fundamental to the initial growth of the country. However, having a government with the vision to recognize future business trends, then enacting the legislation necessary to attract foreign entrepreneurs and multinational companies, and investing vast amounts in improving the state’s infrastructure have all combined to make Singapore the commercial powerhouse it is today.
