7 Recommended Beauty & Wellness Spots in Korea!

Are you planning for a pampering  trip with your girlfriends / mum or sisters soon?  I was just in Korea last month for a Beauty and Wellness trip and had the privilege to experience the best of Beauty and Wellness that Korea has to offer. Today’s post will cover 7 beauty spots and services that we visited which I highly recommend! Maybe you can KIV some spots for your next trip! 😉

(1) K-Beauty Makeover at Beauté 101

Beauté 101 is one of Korea’s top 1-stop shop for all your beauty needs; hair, makeup and nails. Need to prep for a night out in Korea? Fret not – just be in your outfit for the night, factor 2-3 hours with them and you’ll be ready to rock and roll in style, with your tresses, makeup and nails done. I also recommend checking out the nearby alleyways for cute spots for OOTDs like we did! For a basic hair styling, makeup and nails package like I did, it costs 242,000 won (S$298), add another 100,000 won (S$122) to upgrade to a party/special package. Located in Gangam, check out their Facebook page here and be sure to reserve in advance for your slot.

(2) Luxe Facial Spa at Sulwhasoo Flagship Store

If you’re travelling with your mum or favourite aunt, may I suggest and recommend booking a luxe Facial Spa at Sulwhasoo Flagship Store – Korea’s equivalent of La Mer, whether it’s products, place or service, it won’t disappoint. On the ground floor, you’ll find exhibitions of past and present products and packaging. If you think that the ground floor is astounding, you’ll be further impressed by their second level where #interiorgoals abound. You’ll find a gift wrapping segment followed by an array of current ranges of products which are free for testing followed by a private lounge area where you can sip tea and enjoy testing out the products one by one, including the famed Sulwhasoo – Harmonizen Regenerating Cream which costs 650,000 (S$800). Yes that’s right you didn’t read wrong. After shopping (according to the local staff, the store is very generous with their samples and price after discounts for tourists is even better than airport). Before you’re ushered off for your spa, enjoy a vial of ginseng ampoule (drank, not applied), complemented with a cuppa green tea to balance the bitterness of the ginseng. Following which, you can proceed to their spa level and then into individual rooms which are designed like hotel rooms, with individual shower room. The facial spa begins with a foot soak followed by scrub with their special ginseng body scrub that’s not for sale and only available at the spa – talk about exclusivity! There’s even an iPhone cable charge in the spa room, super thoughtful. After the facial, which ends off with Sulwhasoo’s very thorough skincare regime, you can prep your tresses and apply their in house Sulwhasoo makeup foundation and blusher at the private makeup room. I also love that their staff speak basic conversational english pretty well. Visit them at 650, Sinsadong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

In case you’re wondering what’s in the Sulwhasoo facial, these are my notes – I can’t recall the entire skincare regime at the end as it was too extensive!:

Hot feet soak
Ginseng scrub
Facial portion:
Remove makeup
Cleansing oil
Hot towel
White ginseng scrub
Sleeping mask
Rest
After facial skincare:
First treatment essence
Lotion
Moisturizer
Serum
Sunblock

(Visit their site if you’d like to find out more about their Beauty Ritual)

(3) Soak, spa & massage at women’s only Spa Lei

Lei Spa is a popular women’s only spa, and rated #7 out of 230 spas and wellness places in Seoul on TripAdvisor. As we were fully made-over after our Beaute101 experience and we were a little short of time during our visit to Spa Lei, we didn’t (want to) experience a full soak, sauna and massage which will ruin our hair and makeup, lol. We did however enjoy a drink and hot feet soak at both their outdoor and indoor foot spa. While their staff speak very limited english, I was very impressed with their 3 floors of facilities ranging from saunas, spa, massage, sleeping rooms, TV rooms, outdoor terrace, cafe, nails services and more – I can imagine it’s a place to hang out with my girlfriends for a whole day just doing sauna, spa, massage, meals, nails and more. For as little as 2000won an hour, it’s no wonder Spa Lei is a hit with both local and tourists alike. Do note that privacy is a huge concern, so you will need to keep your phones in the locker as no phones are allowed in the spa.spa-lei-women-only-spa-in-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0000 spa-lei-women-only-spa-in-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0001 spa-lei-women-only-spa-in-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0002 spa-lei-women-only-spa-in-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0003 spa-lei-women-only-spa-in-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0004 spa-lei-women-only-spa-in-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0006

(4) Skincare and Makeup Shopping at Myeong Dong

If you count yourself a K-beauty lover, no trip to Korea would be complete without visiting Myeong Dong where there’s an endless supply and promotion of all things Korean skincare and makeup. If you’re a fan of new skincare brands, then you must pay a visit to Olive Young who stocks brands that are more under the radar before they are established enough to have their owns stores, such as CNP, WakeWake and ElishaCoy. If you’re like me and a fan of established skincare and makeup brands such as Laneige, EtudeHouse, Clio & TheFaceshop, then it’s best to plan your trip to coincide with Korea’s sales season which is start of October and the next one would be early next year, visit Visit Korea website or Korea Grand Sale website for updates. If you’re planning to buy in bulk, my local friend suggests visiting Duty Free at Lotte Mall for really awesome bulk discounts.

Also, no street shopping is complete without street snacks!I will be writing a separate article on recommended Korean food spots, but thought I should add this in as well. Speaking of street snacks, On my first night in Korea, I’d met up with my friend, Livia for Chimac dinner. Livia works at Charis and she gifted me with a Klairs Mochi Bb cushion, a lightweight foundation – you can get it from my Charis online store here~  Also, I have to mention that you can get lots of awesome Korean snacks at Big Mart at Myeong Dong, opens till 12am!

Second night at Myeong Dong (we were there most nights since it was a stone throw away from our hotel!):myeong-dong-street-shopping-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0005 myeong-dong-street-shopping-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0006 myeong-dong-street-shopping-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0007 myeong-dong-street-shopping-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0008 myeong-dong-street-shopping-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0010 myeong-dong-street-shopping-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0011 myeong-dong-street-shopping-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0012 myeong-dong-street-shopping-korea-beauty-wellness-must-go-review-enabalista_0013

I also recommend staying at Lotte City Myeongdong Hotel which is a 10 minutes walk away from Myeong Dong shopping streets. A relatively new hotel with impeccable and friendly staff service, good breakfast spread, comfortable bedroom and great housekeeping service.

Apart from Myeong Dong, I also recommend paying a visit to Gangnam where you’ll find Style Nanda and many shop fronts with lovely visual merchandising in their windows and having a cuppa coffee at Coffeesmith, just to people watch – the dudes are particularly handsome there, haha.

(5) Wellness Treatment at KwangDong Oriental Hospital

Have I mentioned that we’ve been treated to only the best in Korea during our trip? The same can be said of our visit to KwangDong Oriental Hospital – we were there on a Friday morning at 9.30am and there were already customers at the counters paying for their oriental medicine dosage/satchets after their check ups. My wellness session with KwangDong Oriental Hospital started with registration, followed by consultation with the doctor, interpreted by a very eloquent lady named Jenny – the doctor then administered my virgin acupuncture experience (pretty painless in fact) on my stiff shoulders and aching calves followed by a cold stone facial spa and hot herbal foot pack – it was an incredible and unique experience to have a cold and hot sensation simultaneously on the opposing ends of my body. I love my experience at KwangDong Oriental Hospital and hope to bring my parents there some day.

(6) Relaxing Spa Session at Herb Island

Last but not the least, if you’re a fan of whimsical European style, I recommend visiting Herb Island and experiencing the Spa session after lunch and staying until the evening when the place is lit in the night. The Spa session starts off with tea and registration followed by a foot soak, a hot pack experience while laying on a cloth over dried hay (I imagine that’s how Jesus felt when he was a baby in a manger, lol) and ending off with massage (choice of back or feet, I picked feet). Also, the shops are super pretty, if you’re a fan of aromatic oil, scents and tea, it’s a place you can stock up on supplies!

New ITEMS: Cherry Blossom & Rose Garden Eye Palette. SO PRETTY, the colours!Enabalista Etudehouse Vivo City Opening 012 Enabalista Etudehouse Vivo City Opening 011

I’d personally go for the Rose Garden, only because I already have a pink eyeshadow set at home – plus the coral colour for the Rose Garden set is UNIQUE.

Enabalista Etudehouse Vivo City Opening 010

These chuby Bling Bling eyeshadow pens caught my eyes!!! I’d opt for Ivory Baby (middle colour) but I decided to go with a Play 101 Pencil in 4 which is a off white colour! Sorry forgot to snap a photo, but you’ll see it in my product photos later below. 🙂Enabalista Etudehouse Vivo City Opening 028

Swatches, these colours are slightly pastel when swatched, and even more pastel when applied on the lips – at least for the coral one which I have tried.  I like Jete Pink and En Haute Pink cause I am naturally drawn to pinks as they are more wearable for daily use and  I shall stop obsessing over dark pinks (the Arabesque Pink which I have 101 similar colours at home)! This collection of lipsticks are more matte in texture and thus not as moisturizing as the typical Dear My Wish Lips Talk collection. BUT OH SO CUTE CASING. I have this urge to go and buy another lipstick (after visiting the new store 2 times in 3 days) just because, you know, cute casing. SIGH. #lipstickobsession #suckerforcutepackaging

Enabalista Etudehouse Dreaming Swan Limited Edition Collection 001

I like the Eye & Cheek blusher in this no3. Arabesque Rosy too!Enabalista Etudehouse Dreaming Swan Limited Edition Collection 008

SO, my second time in the store on Sunday, I GOT THE LAST Eye & Cheek in no.5 in En Haute Pink. LAST PIECE = DESTINY. (Even thought I quite clearly liked no.3 the first time I went. Girls.)

I forgot to snap a picture of the brush sample, but the brush from this collection is also out of stock! So fans will have to hope and wait for restock, if any!
Enabalista Etudehouse Vivo City Opening 014

There’s 2 sets of nail colours for this collection too! I picked out the Peach set. 🙂

SELFIES TIME.
Have I mentioned how every where in store is super photogenic with wonderful lightings for selfies? 😀Enabalista Etudehouse Vivo City Opening 016

Ena’s Korean Rom-Com Drama Recommendations!

Recently I blogged about Thai Chick Flicks on Youtube that I watched and recommend, this time round, I’ll be blogging about Korean Dramas!  🙂

My favourite Korean Drama genre is romantic comedy, so the ones I recommend are also in this genre! I watch Korean dramas from a variety of sources, usually in Chinese subs because they are released a lot faster than the English ones.

Korean Drama Classics

These are the dramas that I love and strongly recommend, although they were filmed a few years back, I still love them now as much as I did then. 🙂

1. Full House

full-house-complete-korean-drama-english-subtitle-9cc48Synopsis: Han Ji Eun is a naive writer who got swindled out of everything she owned including her house by her best friends. Stranded in China, She managed to borrow money from an actor Lee Young Jae to return to Korea. On her return, she found out that her house was bought by Lee Young Jae. In an attempt to get her possessions back, she entered in a contract marriage with Young Jae for one year. In spite of losing all, Ji Eun manages to be cheerful and takes things in strike and the business relationship between the two becomes personal as they start to rely and care for each other. Based on a popular manhwa of the same title.

Review: From what I can remember, this is the korean drama that started my obsession with korean dramas, lol. I loved Song Hye Kyo in this movie, her cute and lovable looks and antics and her wonderful chemistry with Rain. 🙂 It’s a must watch!

Watch on Funshion with chinese subs here.

2.Goong aka Princess Hours

GoongCast

Synopsis: Set in an alternate 21st-century reality where Korea possesses a royal family, since 1945 to present, this show revolves around the lives of the Crown Prince Lee Shin, and his new bride, Chae-kyeong.

The series starts off with the news that the King, Shin’s father, is very ill. There is a grim outlook on the King’s health, the royal family scrambles to find a wife for Shin, so as to allow him to take over the royal throne if the situation requires. Despite being in love with another girl, the ambitious and talented ballerina Hyo-rin whom Shin initially proposed to (she rejects him to pursue her ballet dreams), he eventually marries a commoner to whom he was betrothed by his late grandfather in an old agreement with the girl’s grandfather. He marries the headstrong yet lovable Chae-kyeong after Hyo-rin’s rejection. Despite initially feeling nothing for Chae-kyeong, love eventually blossoms between the couple as time passes.

In the meantime, however, matters are further complicated with the return of Lee Yul and his mother Lady Hwa-Young, who was once the Crown Princess before the death of her husband, the late Crown Prince, older brother of the current King. Yul and his mother were chased out of the palace some time after the death of his father, and it is later revealed that this was due to the King’s discovery of an affair between Yul’s mother and the current King who was his father’s younger brother. Yul’s mother has returned with a sinister motive in mind; to restore her son back to the throne, which, in her mind, is rightfully his. A series of events befall the palace with the schemes Yul’s mother carries out. It is further intensified by the various scandals involving the royal family, which are inclusive of the Shin’s continuing relationship with his old flame Hyo-rin, and the budding love Yul develops for Chae-kyeong, his cousin’s new-found bride. Things get out of hand and the royal family takes matters into their own hands.

Review: I remember being obsessed with this drama and watching it even though it was my PSLE period. Lol! Now that’s a really long time ago. This was a really well produced drama, with elaborate and beautiful settings and costumes. Plus it was Yoon Eun Hye’s first drama and she really shined in this drama. Plus a lot of people were rooting for the second lead so it created quite a buzz then. However I rooted for the main lead, heh. 🙂

Watch on MapleStage with chinese subs here.

3. Coffee Prince

Coffee-Prince-01

Synopsis: The life of Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye) is not easy; she works many jobs to pay off debts and even gave up her feminine image. Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo) is the heir of a big food company, but his grandmother wants him to settle down, so she arranged many dates for him. After Eun Chan bumped into Han Kyul and was mistaken for a boy, Han Kyul decided to hire Eun Chan to be his gay lover in order to avoid the arranged dates. Desperately in need of money, Eun Chan had no choice but to accept. Han Kyul’s grandmother also made Han Kyul in charge of a filthy coffee shop in danger of being bankrupt. Eun Chan begged to work at the coffee shop, and not long after, feelings start to spark, except, how would Han Kyul accept his “homosexuality”?

Review: This is a really cute drama. It was one of the first drama I watched which featured a female cross dressing and behaving as a guy which was of course a cause of a lot of misunderstanding and humour that made for great drama. I love the pairing of Yoon Eun Hye with Gong Yoo! It’s the kind of pairing that made you root for them and wished they were a couple in real life, lol.

Watch on Fushion with chinese subs here.

Till the next post,

<3,

Ena’s Thanksgiving 2012

Ena Thanksgiving 2012

On the 2nd last day of the year, I’d like to recount a few things that I’m thankful to God for. 🙂

In chronological order followed by special people in my life.

Starting in January, I had a very enjoyable short stay at Avilion Cove hotel at Port Dickson, Malaysia with my sisters. You can read about the relaxing stay here.:)

The growth in the two years is remarkable and there is a lot of work still to be done. Praise the Lord. Check out my post on the trip here.

In July, my birth month, I received two very big presents. The first is to be selected as Estee Lauder’s ambassador, to review and share updates on their latest products and events through the last 5 months in this year. It’s been an amazing journey thus far, one that I hope will continue through to the new year and beyond. I humbly believe that you my readers also enjoy reading the posts as much as I enjoyed the experiences and writing about them.  🙂

Shopper’s Paradise // Super Seoul Day 2

For our Super Seoul escapade day 2, we headed out to Lotte department store to shop and lunch!

Check out all the pretty displays at Lotte department store!

Love this pair of shoe, got a pair of black sneaker wedges similar to this from Myung Dong!

There was a lot of attendants at this store, featuring local designer wears.

We had traditional korean food for lunch at level 11!

If you don’t like Korean food, it’s only because you have not tried the authentic korean food in Korea. Dae bak! (The best!)

Reminds me of Rei Kawakubo’s Lumps and Bumps Dress collection:

Love their window display! So artistic and bold.Korea’s Project Runway contestant designs on display~Had sandwich for tea while B was trimming and dyeing/inking her eyebrows! At dinner! We had meat stew for dinner at Hong Dae! We didn’t know how to order and had to trouble B’s friend to speak to the restaurant ahjumma over the phone. HAHA.
Lots of Soju! Bought one back to the hotel and it’s bland. So didn’t finish it. LOL.This meat stew was too much for two of us!At an indie store with a very friendly couple/owners. We told them we came from Singapore and they told us they visited Singapore before, with a $10 bill as proof on their desk. HAHA cute.

The store features some vintage branded clothes as well as some new designer clothes. Quite an eclectic selection. Basically most of the Hong Dae boutiques have their own individual, personalized style yet it’s not different enough to really stand out.

It was a Wednesday night and the lines outside the clubs were INSANE. INSANELY LONG.Never-ending.Then we tumbled across this gothic building. Think it’s a pub of sorts, we didn’t venture in as we were headed back to the hotel for the night!

Here’s one pic of me to end the post, nice? (:Will have the last installment of Super Korea Day 3 + 4 combined when I’m back from the Phillippines! Will be away for a week, on mission trip with my church friends! Do covet your prayers, please pray for our safety and good health while we are there!

xx

Now or Never // Super Seoul Day 1

** Updated with more pictures**

About 2 months ago, B and I headed to Seoul, Korea for 4D3N. With thanks to my Aunt’s travel package, we managed to get a great deal on the plane and hotel fare there! (:

Titled Now or Never, the trip was planned about a month in advance and I procrastinated a lot before uploading because of all the photos I have from this trip! But since my last and final school submission is next Tuesday I can finally find time to upload them on this fine Saturday. (: Will share more about school after this post!

We didn’t have a good midnight flight to Seoul because the seat weren’t comfy to rest in. We landed at Incheon airport and we took a mini-van ride prepared for us as part of the package to our Seoul hotel, Vabien Suite II.

After checking in, we headed out to a trendy area called Samchang Dong with indie boutiques, a multi-level F21 building and the best Korean restaurant!

Picture taking along the road/pavement outside the boutiques! It was end of winter season and we’d be shivering as the wind blew~

We were finding a place for lunch and we were judging the stores by their exterior and the number of people in it. We saw that this store was quite popular so we headed in! 😀

Best Korean traditional meal for lunch, 7000won (~USD$7/SGD$10) per set meal.

Korea is FULL of bakeries and cafes!

Our purchases from Petite Baguette, a Paris-inspired bakery nearby our hotel. B loves their milk yougurt and their butter buns are tasty!

After lunch, we headed out to shop at Doota, another trendy shopping haunt with a lot of up and coming local designer stalls, think a more up-class version of Far East plaza in Singapore.

Will now let the pictures do the talking~!

After checking out about 3-4 levels, we had dinner at an Italian restaurant, Il Mare at the mall.

Mighty tired from the day!

Very tasty cheesy honey pizza!

Days 2-4 another time soon!

xx

Gifts from Korea & more!

Hello All! I would like to specially say hi to my new subscribers & thank you for subscribing! It’s very encouraging to have new subscribers and I plan to continue to boost the content of my blog as well as the frequency of my posts. Very exciting times ahead indeed.

A quick update, life’s been good, praise God! 🙂

My sister’s been back home from her Korean internship, although for a short 10 days and she’s leaving tomorrow already! Oh how fast time flies!

She bought back a dozens of snacks, drinks and a birthday necklace for me. So here are the pretty pictures! 😀

A pretty Hello Kitty Necklace~ I have not worn it yet. Slightly over-blingz for me, but it’s really cute. ^-^ I really like the packaging, it’s very beautiful and makes the gift feel precious.

Now for korean snack goodness~ Have not actually tried most of them. But they look oh-so-pretty & deliciously packed!

Korean Starbucks rice chips with citron-pear jam!

L-GA Blueberry chocolates, Lotte Ghana chocolate sponge cake with chocolate filling, covered with chocolate, Lotte Margaret soft biscuit. I just realized that the Lotte Ghana is kind of a racist product name… But I tell you, it tastes heavenly! If you are a chocolate and sponge cake lover, you will love this!

Market O Choco cracker. My sister says this is really really good. That the biscuit is slightly fermented and she loves it. Quite excited to try this! ^^,Market O Real Brownies has such a pretty, updated vintage packaging! And the individually wrapped brownies sachets look even lovelier! It’s interesting that they added the ‘real’ in the product name. What does it mean exactly? Could it mean ‘original’ recipe or ‘handmade’? It can be misleading. Do you think it makes a difference to you, as a buyer of the product? 😉

Japanese Green Tea Kit Kat is particularly raved about. My sister likes it and some friends of mine also love it! If Kit Kat has a ‘Singapore’ flavour, what do you think it would be? Durian? 😛

Orion Natural Chicle chewing gum. I didn’t take this cause I’m not a fan of chewing gum (I get easily tired of chewing). But check it out, the packaging is cute with polar bears and it’s bigger than the usual mint box sizes we have in Singapore.Lastly, check out this cute CJ Quail egg packaging! My sister likes this so much, she has two packs and she’s bringing both back to London! I’m not a huge fan of quail’s egg, but if my sister likes it so much, it must be really good! 🙂

Recently I found out about online store G-market. My best friend and neighbour, Ying Ling once told me about it before but I never did checked it out as it seemed quite complicated and daunted. (New user barriers) However one day I decided to check it out and boy, was I delighted!

The stuff there are really cheap. I found a dress I bought from an online blog sold there but at a lower price! I recently bought 3 dresses, will upload my reviews when they arrive. 🙂

So today I received 2 cute cable wire holders which I bought last week and I would like to share my reviews with you! 😉
I bought for myself a really cute pink girl cable wire holder and I would recommend you buying if you want one as it’s just really cheap at $1.90 (free shipping). You can check out more cable holders and buy them here.

I bought this giraffe cable holder for my sister as a gift. It’s only $1.60. However the first image of the giraffe holder on the site is yellow and I presumed I would get the yellow one. So if you want the yellow one, you have to specify to the seller when buying. You can get it here!

As mentioned, I’m planning for a series of posts coming ahead, so stay tuned! 😉

Of Job Search and Blogging Ideas!

I am always procrastinating the work that needs to be done until (almost) the last minute which is not good! I want to be more disciplined and start to do work earlier! Especially when I keep saying I want to excel in my studies this year. Or all of my degree education for that matter.

Or another relevant note, I have been procrastinating looking for a job for about a week plus now. I want to apply for Venice Biennale 6 weeks internship which provides for accommodation and 40euros daily allowance but the catch is that applicants must pay for their own tickets. I also want to visit my sister when she’s interning in Korea. Thus I am looking for a job to pay for the approx. $1,500 round-way ticket to Italy and the approx. $700 round-way ticket to Korea!

So far I’ve applied to a few places. (So proud of myself. LOL. Probably the only productive thing I’ve done so far for CNY.)
– $450/month Internship with Media Flair Communications
– Temporary Administrative Assistant at MBS
– Internship with Richemont

Except for the first application, I don’t know how much the others will pay. I really hope I can find a well-paid part time job! I think the other two will be quite tough to score as they are probably finding for full-time interns. But I will keep my fingers crossed! This is because I’ve done Administrative work at Tilt before and it’s really possible to work from home and dropping by the office occasionally.

On yet another note, I have been thinking about including more Art and Fashion related posts on my blog. I think I will continue to keep this as a personal blog but include more posts about topics/events/exhibitions that interests me! So this blog will become more of a personal/art/fashion blog. We’ll see! 🙂
