Looking back at 2011 Part 1

Hi dear readers! HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012!

I hope you enjoyed your New Year’s weekend as much as I did! I went for my friend, Sofie’s birthday on 30th Dec which was a mega blast and I had a quiet New Year’s countdown with my family and celebrated the New Year with friends at Sunday morning church service! 🙂 Spending time at our Lord’s house is a great way to start the New Year! 🙂

This is gonna be a long post! Before I go on to the New Year blog posts, I’d like to wrap up my 2011 first. Heh. I really haven’t had the time to update all my pictures from December so that’s what I’ll do here! 😉

Starting off with my friend H’s 21st!

Gosh, has it really been a full year of 21st birthdays? I think I might have possibly attended almost one every month! Partly glad our 21st year is over but also hoping we’ll all continue to meet up! 🙂

That’s lovely Jing Wei and Valerie with the fantastic buffet spread. The party was held at Aranda chalets, which in my opinion is one of the best chalet offerings in Singapore for their sleek and stylish chalets with a quiet and lush environment.

Instead of having a traditional birthday cake, H celebrated with tiny cupcakes which were not only beyond adorable but also very delicious!

I thoroughly enjoyed the red velvet cupcake and the caramel cupcake!
And in the “Most Hilarious Post-Dinner Birthday Activity for the year 2011” award, H’s takes the cake. As seen from above, she was first “blind-folded” in a red plastic bag and made to whack the pink heel pinata with an umbrella. What went down instead, was a very crooked umbrella because the pinata was one hard nut to crack!
Next up… FCCS Team Christmas Lunch @ Au Petit Salut at Dempsey Road! 🙂
The Christmas lunch was a much welcomed break and reward as we had worked very hard for the months of November and December, for various events and publications.
The lunch was a gathering of the permanent staff, interns, free-lance staff and our president. As you can see most of the team are French with only 3 other ladies who are local Singaporeans (and naturally with whom I bonded with). So my internship was also quite a cultural exposure for me, particularly in terms of language and food.
Group photos! Generally when I reveal to my peers where I intern at, they would respond with slight gasps and exclamations of how cool it is. Upon hindsight, it is indeed all glory to God that He secured a wonderful internship opportunity for me which i will look back with fondness. Despite the tedious work I did, I really enjoyed the friendships I have made with my colleagues. 🙂
Last but not the least, here’s what went down my tummy during that meal. Fantastic french loaves and soft butter (which reminded me of the meals I had when I was in Italy in 2007), escargot in garlic sauce for starters, beef steak and fries for mains and ending off with raspberry sorbet and gateau (cake) ! 🙂
With the other fellow intern, Nirina. He’s French but from Madagascar!
Soo… look out for Part 2 in the next post, I will post photos from Benjamin (my cell group) Christmas party and Sofie’s birthday party~!
Tata!

The Elephants Parade @ Tangs Orchard!

Merry Christmas dear readers!

I hope the Christmas season is treating you well! 🙂

A bonus for working at Orchard, in addition to the good food around town is the fine sights on the streets. This year, Tangs have invited several brightly and creatively coloured elephants! Do go down to town to admire these cute elephants before they are gone! 🙂

Angry bird is everywhere! Even an angry-phant! 🙂

These two jeweled elephants front the Tangs entrance. Very cute. 🙂

Bejeweled and champagne coloured elephants. They can be bought at a special pop up store in front and as well as on the fourth floor!

I thought this elephant looked queer with the black feathers… But still very glam I must say.

I love christmas decorations! Everything looks so happy and beautiful!

Gold butterflies adorn the decos in Tangs. Haha.

You can get a plain elephant and colour it in DIY style!

That’s all for now! I have a lottt of food photos from all the good food I have been having! 🙂

Will post them soon! Meanwhile I’ll be off having more good food during the christmas season and I hope you will be too! 🙂

Here’s a song we sang at my cell group party last night! Christmas isn’t Christmas till it happens in your heart! 🙂

Christmas Isn’t Christmas
’till it happens in your heart,
Somewhere deep inside you
Is where Christmas really starts;

So give your heart to Jesus,
you’ll discover when you do
That it’s Christmas
Really Christmas for you.

Jesus brings warmth like a winter fire,
A light like a candle’s glow;
He’s waiting now to come inside
As He did so long ago.

Jesus brings gifts of truth and life
And makes them bloom and grow.
So welcome Him with a song of joy
And when He comes you’ll know ….. that …

Christmas Isn’t Christmas
’till it happens in your heart,
Somewhere deep inside you
Is where Christmas really starts;

So give your heart to Jesus,
you’ll discover when you do
That it’s Christmas
Really Christmas for you.

lyrics & song: jimmy & carol owens

Merry Christmas! It is all about Jesus! 🙂

Catching a Flu

A sneeze in the office

A wave of air

Carries the virus

Through the corridor

Above and across my colleagues

Straight to my desk

Or was it

A sneeze in the office

Early in the morning

A harmless conversation with the flu victim

When I caught the flu?

Then

Swelling of the eyes

Pain of the throat

Drowsy head

Sleepy thoughts…

All day all night

Now at the doc’s

Who can’t catch the flu and

Take it away

But to administer meds

That will fight those virus in me

Meanwhile…

Aching sleepy me

Cant wait to recover and be well again

Floppy hats are a popular and lovely fall winter trend which I have noted from various brands such as Rosebullet, F21 and New Look. Although a little boring to chose black for a party dress, the D&G laced dress is hard to resist. I love the burgundy reds on the Mulberry oversize postmans locked clutch and Michael Kor boots. And the Antik Batik fur coat is a great style item to snuggle up to in, especially if going to a snowy place abroad. I have chosen a darker, muted and rich black, burgundy and dark chocolate brown colour palette which is in part inspired from the ICB styling event I attended.

Christmas is a time to dress up, party and eat in style! I hope you have party plans in store!

Sponsored Review | CLEAR Shampoo Review featuring Martin Hong

UPDATED with review and pictures of hottie Martin Hong! 🙂

Hi my dear reader! I have been busy and I hope all of you my lovely readers are doing well this week! 🙂

CLEAR shampoo is famous and touted for its Anti-dandruff shampoo formula (hence the name Clear) therefore I am very happy to bring to you Martin and my reviews of CLEAR Shampoo – New breakthrough in scalp care Nutrim 10 range!

I will present my review in this post and Martin’s review will follow up in the next post! 🙂

First up!

1. Clear Women Ice Cool Menthol

Clear Women Ice Cool Menthol shampoo is a refreshing and revitalizing shampoo. If you like to start and end off your day with a refreshing hair wash, this is what you are looking for! It is suitable for all scalp and hair types and it has an invigorating burst of menthol freshness. Personally I am not a fan of menthol as I find it is too masculine a scent for me. 😛 But if you are a girl that loves her mint, I’d say go for it! 🙂

Next up…

2. Clear Women Anti Hair-Fall

Clear Women Anti Hair-Fall shampoo is my preferred choice between the two! 🙂 Created with Hair Lock Technology, it is suitable for weakened scalp and hair. The shampoo strengthens from the root to tip and increases hair’s defense against hairfall* and breakage. What I love about this shampoo is that it actually smells and feels nourishing! During and after the wash, my hair feels cleansed, smoother and nourished. The scent is lovely and fantastic, I highly suggest test-smelling the product the next time you visit the supermarket. As girls, it is important for us to prevent hair fall so this is a fantastic product! 🙂

Both shampoos retail at leading pharmacies and supermarkets at an affordable price of $9.40 for 350ml and $14.30 for 700ml.

Now we continue on to the Men’s range!

My dear friend Martin is a CLEAR shampoo user, so he gladly accepted my request to review their products on my blog! 🙂

Check out Martin in his usual coolness (I grabbed this pic off his facebook, hahaha).

Before you scroll down… You might want to check that your parents are not peeking over your back because otherwise they will start asking “Why are you looking at pictures of a top naked pretty boy washing his hair?” 😛

Martin’s Guide to a head of CLEAR cool hair!

This is the secret to my cool hair!

First you squeeze a generous amount on your hands…

Then you lather your hair… Now is the time you can style your hair to look like Beckham!

Massage the shampoo on your hair…

Wash it off and feel fresh~

Dry your hair well…

And this is how you will have great looking hair!

Martin’s review: What I like about CLEAR shampoo is that its effective (it’s an anti-dandruff formula) and that it leaves this cooling menthol feeling on your scalp. It’s like rubbing ice cream all over your hair, its pretty awesome. And after you wash it off, you can still feel the minty-tingly sensation and it just makes you feel really fresh.

CLEAR shampoo has 2 ranges, one is ‘Cool Menthol Sport’ and the other is ‘Anti-hair fall’. I’m not old enough to need the second one lah, but the first one really works for me. So for anyone who likes an effective-fuss-free-awesome-feeling shampoo, this is the perfect product.

To end off…

CLEAR Shampoo Sample Redemption for my dear readers to try 7 different types of new CLEAR Shampoo with Nutrium 10. They are now up for redemption at www.thesamplestore.sgHurry redeem your free samples before stock runs out! 🙂

Ser Li’s Sexy 21st Birthday Party~!

Back in November, my classmate invited a few girls and I to her 21st party and it was a blast! 🙂 It was really great catching up with the girls after 3 weeks of internship! Finally some bonding with girls our age and think alike. Haha. 🙂

Ser Li prepared some very awesome props and we definitely goof-ed around in it!

Here’s with Christabelle!

Christa, Rach, Shella, Bev, Clara and Ser Li!

Twist~!

With Rach!

And the birthday girl!

The girls in red… Like all prepared for CNY 2012! Haha. 😉

Ser Li’s awesome pretty pink icing on the outside lemon flavoured cake! Very sweet and sinful. 🙂

And the sexy birthday girl with the card I made for her! I am glad it goes very well with her sexy red and black baroque theme. The heart shapes motifs were a winning guess! 🙂

Turning 21st is a milestone and it can get pretty mundane after attending several in the year.. But when it has a good theme and great company, it’s always a joy to attend!

My week has been a daunting and stressful one – somehow there were a lot of technical work difficulties at work for me and my colleagues. I am praying and hoping for a stress-free three more week to the end of my internship and the end of the year!

I am also busy preparing and planning for church cell group activities and Trans. Lab collaborative project with Gilda. I am praying hard that these will go smoothly!

It will be a crazy three weeks to the end of the year and I know the crazy will not end until February next week – Trans. Lab Exhibition! It’s all very exciting, adrenaline rushing and frightful at the same time.

Wish me luck and please pray for me! 🙂

Bonne Week-end!

ICB Styling Event with Jerome Awasthi @ Wisma Isetan

Two Saturdays ago, I invited my friend Xue Li to attend ICB Styling event. I was invited by Heat Branding which I took up the offer just to see what it’ll be like. I’m certainly glad I attended as it was an enjoyable experience. More than a fashion show, it was a more personal experience hosted by acclaimed stylist Jerome Awasthi as he spoke about how he styled the girls and why and explained in greater detail about the products, about the materials and design. It definitely made fashion come alive and interesting even for Xue Li, a more science-inclined student who felt she learnt a lot more about fashion. 🙂

The store at Wisma Isetan, level 2.

The hanger full of clothes before the event started.

The lookbook in-store.

There was a free-flow of tasty punch and finger food like tarts and chocs! I should have taken photos of them. Lol.

Jerome starts with the first model and shares how the first look can be casual but with a slight change, she can look different. So he sends her away to transform…

Out comes the second model and he dons on her a fur stole which is a beautiful winter item although totally not suitable for Singapore. I still love it. Haha.Model one is back in the same top but now in a girl pleated skirt and leather jacket which makes her appear formal yet feminine at the same time!

Model 2 appears again, in a trench coat which Jerome demonstrates different ways of tie-ing the belt.

Then she undresses the trench to reveal what she’s wearing within!

A casual knitted dress. Which was shapeless till Jerome skinny belted it! 🙂

I like this oxford wedges!

Next up a series of transformation with the same versatile scarf. Wrapped around!

Or like a hanging top.

Or like a vest!

My favourite look is the one on the left! With matching burgundy/maroon red stockings, bag and top! It’s beautiful for this Christmas! And very Blair from gossip girl. 🙂

Hope you enjoyed this post as I did for the styling event! 🙂

Stay beautiful, inside and out!

xx

I actually have a few more photos to upload from the event but alas, wordpress uploading is quite a hassle and I’m already tired… I will blog soon! 🙂 Please leave comments for me! 🙂 <3

Ena Vlogs | of Awkward Turtles & Clear Shampoo

Hello!

I had my fringe trimmed! Nice? 🙂

I decided to do a short vlog… so here it is!

Am asking around to find a willing guy friend to review the shampoo, hehe. Quite excited to write about the review post soon! I realize I do like to review products. So if you have any products you would like me to review, drop me an email! 😉

I have two more posts coming up, ICB styling event from 2 weeks ago and my friend’s 21st birthday last week! I wanted to post them tonight but it’s quite late already so I’ll leave it for next time! 😛 Time flies! It’s been one month since I started internship, I’m halfway through! I am really missing holidays though… increasingly I wish i was “en vacances” which means on holiday in french. Sighhh. Looking on the bright side, I do enjoy my work at the chamber because of my friendly colleagues although this week has been pretty stressful and hectic… with many deadlines and due dates.

I always try to remember stuff to blog/vlog about but when I do come down to it, I forget all of them! I really should jot ideas down… I am going to join my friend Sofie for her wedding decoration meeting tomorrow night! She is having a Marie Antoinette theme which is really cool! 😉

My french class exam is in like 2 weeks time!!! Hahaha I need to start revision! It’s like so many grammar rules to remember! When I revise till the end, I forget what I learnt at the beginning! -_-

So! Drop me a comment and show me some love! (: <3 <3 <3

Foodie Galore & La Pétanque!

Salut Les Amies! Hello my friends!

Thankfully I had a very enjoyable week and I hope you had too!
This will be a very image heavy post as I will basically just post a lot of pictures from last week! ^^

First up, I am going share photos from some of the meals I’ve had last week! As I am now interning at a company located at Liat Towers, next to Wheelock, I’ve had the good fortune of having my friendly colleagues bringing me around some of the good food places around town to eat! Don’t blame me if these photos make you hungry! 😛

First up, pepper beef rice lunch at Wisma’s Food Republic! It’s from the store that sells beef noodles. Very yummy, at $6.30 per set. 🙂

As I have French classes every Tues and Thurs, I’ve taken to eating sandwiches for dinner due to the convenience. I highly recommend this ham and lettuce sandwich from Sun Moulin bakery at Shaw House’s Isetan. Priced at $3!

As my parents were away for the week, my sister and I decided to meet up for dinner and we had delicious Japanese food at a shop at Raffles City basement. I forgot to take note what is the store name. Lol. This tofu side dish is not very tasty…

But this Soft shell crab Okos is highly recommended especially if you like soft shell crab! 🙂

This sandwich is from Taka’s Deck bakery… which has very tough bread but very yummy mayonnaise! I won’t buy it again cause the bread is too hard, but if you like hard bread then you can give this a try! It’s $3. 🙂

My sister took pics of us on the train home and made this image compilation including my second sister! 🙂

This are the stuff I bought from Watson’s member’s sale! Hahaha. Pads, LoveMore facial masks and Majorlica eyeliner all on like 50% offer! ^^ The LoveMore facial masks come in very pretty packaging like an airmail envelope, I will take a picture and upload soon. 🙂

On Saturday, I went to Siloso beach to check out the La Petanque event organized by my colleagues at FCCS. ^^

It was a super beautiful and sunny day!

A pic with the lovely Cat.

Constance hard at work in the morning keeping scores!

With the event head, Valerie, dressed in the colours of France! 🙂

I wanted to explain the Petanque rules here but I am quite lazy and wiki-pedia explains it quite clearly so I would just recommend you to read it here. As an introduction, Pétanque (French pronunciation: [petɑ̃k]) is a form of boules where the goal is, while standing inside a starting circle with both feet on the ground, to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet (literally “piglet”) or jack. It is also sometimes called a bouchon (literally “cork”) or le petit (“the small one”). The game is normally played on hard dirt or gravel, but can also be played on grass, sand or other surfaces.

Met my French class classmate, Yu Xin at the event and she was jumping in joy when she scored a point. 🙂

Isabella a very humorous french lady looking good while throwing the petanque ball. 😉

I did have a chance to represent FCCS and play the game but I don’t have photos to show! 😛 It’s pretty easy and fun to play!

Lunch was at Rasa Sentosa’s Barnacles restaurant, French buffet style and it was oh-so-good! There was a wide variety of food available and unfortunately when I reach, the first round was gone and snatched up by hungry french men so I missed out a bit but still what i had, mini burgers, fish, cheese, and desserts like cream cuff and strawberry shortcake was awesome!

Met a really cute french boy, Augustine! He has really big eyes but when he smiles they become like slits, haha cute!

Next up, a vlog post followed by another post with photos from my classmate, Ser Li’s sexy 21st birthday party! ^^

<3 Scrapbooking for Family and Friends <3

I have always liked scrapbooks and I started with doing decorated mini name boards for friends and family as farewell gifts about a year back.

Recently my primary school friends Jonathan went abroad to UK, London to study so I made him this:

I bought the materials from a paper craft store at Simei, East Point Mall on the second level but very unfortunately the last time I went back this week, they either closed or moved! :'( But it is also ok… because I can buy materials at another place which I will tell you in a bit. 🙂

Basically the set I bought was a ‘Travel’ set meant to create scrapbook for your travels but it also makes sense to create paper craft gifts for friends going away. 🙂 I also bought the buttons from the same store. The ‘thickers’ alphabet stickers were bought at Spotlight if I didn’t remember wrongly. The coaster looking cardboard piece was also bought at Spotlight about a year ago. I went back wanting more but unfortunately it was either out of stock or discontinued. :/

The set comes with ribbons, papers and alphabet stickers. I bought them on offer for about $15. 🙂 Here you can see that I have cut the paper and stuck them on the cardboard. Scrapbooking tools, pencil for outlining on special papers before cutting with scissors. 😉

Next you glueeee!

Add on more decorative elements and some personalized message and Voila~! You’re done! 🙂 Heavier items will need to use liquid white glue which will become transparent when dried.

Another friend Wei Ren also left to study abroad… This time it was a bigger card to contain messages from other friends as well. 🙂

Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to develop the photos professionally so it was from my home printer. Thankfully Wei Ren liked it nonetheless. 🙂

The next series of works are made using materials I bought from PaperMarket at Raffles City basement! 🙂 Surprisingly, students only needed $30 on a receipt to be members, so I was given a members card (yay!) after the purchase of two sets, one with a Baby Girl theme and another for a Girlfriends theme.

I belatedly realize all my best girlfriends are born in the last quarter of the year! September and October! Hahahah! And yes, all these paper crafts are like really belatedly birthday cards. 😛

For my girlies in Lasalle… Kat & Bini. 🙂

If you noticed, yes I did mix materials from the Travel set as well! I do take note of my friend’s personalities and preferences before I make the cards. 🙂

All these photos were printed professionally at the Kodak store at Marine Parade near Watsons. Only 25cents per photo! 🙂

For my bestie Ming~! And bestie YL~~~

And for Justin and Kim’s baby girl who just turned 1 month old, congrats! Baby Keren is so pretty! 🙂 It’s meant to be like a group card, the second page for cell group members to sign. 🙂

Then I made for my lovely sisters as well!!! I <3 my sisters. I am very blessed. We are very blessed, too blessed to be stressed! Hope you two are reading this! 🙂 <3

This is for my sister who graduated… not so recently. 😛 And enjoying friendships at work, yay!

A close up of the border, which is an original idea! 🙂Another for her more ‘private’ life. 😛 I was quite sad to find that I don’t have a recent picture with her.. But then belatedly realize there is one but it wasn’t on facebook so I forgot about it… 😛
For my sister also abroad… in UK.. (Seriously so many Singaporeans studying abroad, hahaha.) This is supposed to be a secret/surprise… Wonder if she will read this then it’s not so secret anymore! Hahahaha 😛I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I did creating all these paper craft / scrapbook layouts and writing about them!

My advice for anyone who wants to start scrapbooking would be to buy good materials, preferably those pre-packed ‘sets’ for a start, as they come in co-ordinated colours, patterns and design theme. Some even have layout ideas at the back to spark your creativity! Honestly, as you go along, it’s very easy to then go free-style and design as you like.

If you are stuck for ideas, just google! Whether it’s “Best Friend Scrapbook layout” or “Birthday Scrapbook layout” or “Baby girl scrapbook layout” there are tons of ideas and inspirations online! 😉

Next up, I will post about the ICB styling event I attended last Saturday!

I also filmed a vlog…which I will post soon! <3

God bless!

xx

First Halloween Celebration!

As I always say, I am very blessed. My lovely (and sometimes crazy) friends in class asked me out with them for Halloween and I gamely agreed but it wasn’t till the last hour that I took action… so my ‘dress’ for Halloween was very ‘mehhh’.

I called Shi Hui like 1 hour before we were supposed to meet up and I told her I have no idea what to dress up as. Then I told her likely a leopard dress and Ser Li was with her and she said she’ll bring a Fox mask for me. Yay! But if you think about it… Leopard dress and Fox mask? = No link but one happy Jia En. HAHAHA. Anyways.

What is Halloween without dressing up, drinking, getting high, looking silly and having FUN? 😀

Traditionally Halloween is a day to celebrate the dead, before All Saint’s Day, a day to celebrate the Saints and all the deceased members of the church. But now it has evolved to an event that youths and young-at-heart a like can dress up and celebrate with their friends. 🙂

It was my very first halloween celebration and I was very fascinated (to say the least) by everyone’s enthusiasm for the event and their courage in dressing up. There was flintstones, anime characters, goth girls, boys in CHIJ girls uniform… and even NAZI soldiers. Haha. When it comes to creativity, the sky’s the limit eh! With my super lovely classmates Serli, Shi Hui and Shella. <3 <3 <3 one <3 for each of them! Ser li as a kitten, and Shi and Shell as bunnies, all tres sexy ! 🙂

Rach and friend popped by a bit before they left for some drinks!

Kat and friends! Kat as a witch and her friends as like… death clowns! x)

Anyways as a *ahem* responsible blogger I shall stress that if you drink but don’t get drunk and if you are a girl then all the more be guarded when you’re out partying alright! 🙂 Nowadays girls can be quite scary too so boys also must be guarded and wary ok! 😛

Shella with claw fingers… wait isn’t Ser li supposed to be the kitten?!
Ser li: MEOWZ~!

I am so excited with bunny Shi Hui! 🙂

First signs of red faces and high kisses! o’-‘o
Group shot in the club! Us girls and Shi’s friend, Rayson! The very ‘lucky’ Rayson with 4 dates for Halloween!
Posing with boys in diapers! HAHA.
I secretly would like to kiss Ser li very much… just kidding! 😛
Ending off Halloween 2011 with 3 scary clowns! How was your Halloween? If you celebrated, drop me a comment, tweet or email with links to your photos, I wanna see! 🙂

100 Friends 100 Artists 100 Inspirations & More

Now that I am settling into my internship(more about that later), I finally have time for my blog! 🙂

100 Friends 100 Artists 100 Inspiration exhibition is currently held at TCC @ Clarke Quay (near Raffles Place Mrt). The exhibition is managed by Art-management. It’s a celebration of Phunk Studio as they invite 100 friends to create 100 artworks – each piece representing something, someone that inspires them. Subject varies from animals to families, lovers, artists and for myself, a Singaporean fashion visionary Tjin Lee. :)

Each artwork will be sold at $199 per piece. $99 will go to funding Transmission Lab 2012 exhibition which will be held next February, showcasing the artworks of up and coming creative Singapore talents.

Photo time! 🙂

With my group members under Trans. Lab 2011-12, Joyce Lee and Wanqi, both with design and illustration background. 🙂

Together with our mentor, William and his super cute and adorable son. 🙂Candid shot of us admiring the brochure. 🙂

My artwork. I am inspired by local fashion visionary and game-changer, Tjin Lee, founder of Mercury M&C, organizing company for Audi Fashion Festival and Blueprint! 🙂

This is my write-up for my artwork:

Tjin Lee is a Singaporean woman that inspires me. As the founder of the PR and events management company Mercury Marketing and Communications and Audi Fashion Festival director, she has increased Singapore’s awareness of fashion and level of fashion by bringing in top international designers in the past years. She is inspiring to a fashion student like myself because she is visionary, believing that Singapore can be a great fashion capital years ago and has played a great part for the fashionable city that Singapore is today!

My artwork about Tjin Lee is executed in scrapbook–style, a collection of bits and pieces about her that inspires a fan. The use of black and white traditional damask print complements Lee’s elegance while the orange rose and hues expresses her warmth and friendliness that she exudes in person. Lastly I hope that her quote ‘I… march to the beat of a different drum.’ continues to inspire many more to take the lead and take the less-travelled paths.

Posing with my artwork. 🙂

This is one of my favourite artwork in the exhibition, it is done by my CCS (cultural and contextual studies) tutor, Lucinda and it’s kind of like a romantic tribute to her lover… Aww!!! I texted her to tell her I liked it a lot. 🙂 It was sold already (red dot) and we wonder who could have bought it…? 😛

Funny profile pic of an artist ! Hahaha 🙂

Do go down and check out the exhibition at Clarke Quay! 50% of the artworks are sold and will be taken down by 15 Dec if they are sold, if not they will be on display till January! Hurry go down and purchase the artworks while they are still available, support local arts, support Transmission Lab 2011/12 and support yours truly! 🙂

About 3 weeks ago, Jacq invited Char and I to attend IS Magazine bash at Avalon. Wondering what IS Mag bash might have in store, I decided to attend to take a look. It was terrrible to say the least. We went down at about 11pm and queued for about 30min to be told that drinks were no longer free-flow and there is only one bar open/bartender giving drinks and it wasn’t the one that we were queuing at. The music was bad, it was so very super packed, all I remembered was noise and there was no host or entertainment of any sort. Disappointed, we left without a single sip or drinks. Although there was a small door gift of  the Face Shop facial mask and other samples… I don’t think it was worth the trip.

Fortunately, there was another event which took us by pleasant surprise. Jacq was invited to attend Heineken underground music festival which was held at what seemed like an abandoned warehouse at Stadium link, near Katong (and $8 cab fare away from my home, yay).En route to the party place.

Jacq signing in while we await for our passes as her guests. 🙂

The first set that we heard playing was by an indie musician from UK, London. I think his name was James. The music was very strong in bass and vocals, like acoustic with strong beats. At times pretty trance and hypnotic which was… very unfortunately not Char or my kind of thing/music. HAHA. Well, we were each given a complimentary full bottle of Heineken plus the enthusiasm of the crowd bobbing to his music really made the event enjoyable.

I left early that night but not without a picture with the lovely girls! 🙂

Myself, Jacq and Char.

Onward Japanese Fashion Show | ICB, DipDrops & Rosebullet

Thanks to HEAT Branding, through a competition held on Insing.com , I won tickets to visit Onward Kashiyama Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Showcase @ Avalon. The original price of the ticket which includes access and one drink was $35 and I won tickets for a guest and myself! There were many Japanese that paid to watch the show that night, I am so blessed! 🙂

If you read my last article, you would know that I invited Gilda of Revasseur to attend the show with me.

That night, Onward Kashiyama Japanese fashion house introduced three retail concepts in a high-energy creative presentation. Invited guests and media were shown a premier showcase of the ICB, Rosebullet and DipDrops Autumn/Winter collections. 😀

I’ll let the photos do the talking~ Credits to Gilda for the sharp images and no credits to me for the blurry ones. 😛

ICB features grown up, office lady looks.

Before DipDrops came on, there was a live hair show by Shunji Matsuo featuring Malaysian blogger Cheesie of Cheeserland as model! 😀

Second in line, DipDrops FW 2011 collection had a distinctive British influence to it.

Lastly, Rosebullet showed a mixed collection of urban and laidback country floral styles. Before the models came strutting in, there seemed like a group of ‘normal’ girls prancing on the stage and then they settled in a corner of the stage, drinking champagne. We had no idea who they were and what they were doing but they did bring some entertainment. Perhaps Rosebullet was trying to convey that the ‘everyday’ girl can look equally charming, cute and attractive as the professional models. 🙂

To end off, a cute albeit blurry photo taken with Gilda and Kenneth and Andrew, designers of Depression! 🙂

They gave out really nice canvas tote bag with vouchers as door gifts! Sorry I won’t be posting photos of them cause I gave the vouchers away! 🙂 If you fancy the clothes, do visit Dip Drops at 313@Somerset (#03-09/10) or at the Rosebullet boutique located at Marina Bay Sands (B2-116, Canal Level)! 😉

Can’t get enough? Check out FeverAvenue’s more thorough coverage of the show here. 😉
School’s out and internship’s (sadly not holiday :/) in! I received positive news last Friday that I was given an internship placement with French Chambre of Commerce Singapore (FCCS). I am glad and I hope to put my limited French to good use and pick up a lot more in my 2 months there!
Blogging really takes time, hopefully I will be able to keep up and have more interesting stuff to blog about! 😛 I have so many stuff to blog about… My recent occupation with end of year’s presentations and submissions have resulted in blogging ‘back log’ :/ For a long ‘preview’, next up will be the 100 Friends Exhibition and I will combine that with a night out with Jacq and Char where we went for a very uneventful magazine bash but followed by a very interesting beer celebration… Next next will probably be a short one on my first halloween ‘party’ experience! 😉
That’s all for now, wishing all of you the best of health and a blessed week ahead! <3

Into the swirling memory bowl – Mid Oct 2011

Bonsoir!

Just some quick updates about my personal life, which I have not done so for quite some time now, as I have been mostly updating on the fashionable events I’ve attend.

I am very thankful to God for completing and successfully submitting Finance assessment paper this morning. Am actually suffering from the fatigue of staying up late and waking up early to complete the assignment due to bad time management and ill-discipline from being distracted by internet (sigh)…

I have just completed 2 months worth of french elementary 1 course, held every tuesday and thursday nights! In a quick recap, I am now able to pronounce in french A-Z, 1-100, introduce myself, mastered a limited but increasing list of vocabulary such as countries, occupations and subjects. I am struggling with remembering feminine prefix – la and masculine prefix – le. I hope to be more acquainted with the french culture to inspire and motivate my learning. I also hope that I will soon be able to speak and think comfortably in french! A faraway dream as of now, but definitely a great ambition!

School work is piling up like a huge mountain as submissions and presentations are all nearing. Scheduling really helps put things in perspective and helps with prioritization. Was initially quite worried last weekend about not being to finish work but after scheduling, there was actually sufficient time. But turns out, our tutors have postponed 1 submission and 1 presentation. I feel sad that our misery is prolonged (not actually sure if we will put in more effort, but now there is no reason not to do better.) but on the bright side, I am relieved and should be happy for the extra time to do things even better, more time for details. 😉

Time is really flying by like crazy all of a sudden. It’s October and soon the year will be over. @-@ I am grateful because I’ve been superbly (and happy to be) busy with many activities with friends and communities. Other than school, church, attending events with lovely friends and learning French, I am also involved with Transmission Lab 2011-2012 hosted by Phunk Studio.

A week ago I attended a fashion show showcasing Japanese brands Rosebullet, ICB by Onward fashion group. I won the tickets and I asked Gilda, fashion designer and genius behind the homegrown(but with American design background and Japanese quirky sensibilities) label Revasseur to attend with me. I will do a proper introduction about Gilda and Revasseur in a future post. I am super happy and honoured that she agreed to collaborate with me to create an artwork under Trans. Lab program. I am very excited to discuss more with her about our collaboration once school’s out. 🙂

And last night saw the opening of 100 Friends 100 Artists 100 Inspiration exhibition held at TCC @ Clarke Quay (near Raffles Place Mrt). 🙂

Each artwork will be sold at $199 per piece. $99 will go to funding Transmission Lab 2012 exhibition which will be held next February, showcasing the artworks of up and coming creative Singapore talents (including Gilda and myself). I am beyond honoured and often catch myself smiling silly (and feeling inadequate) to know that I am in such talented company. I am very humbled and I do hope to make a positive contribution and positive impact to the local arts and design community. 🙂

As this is a short recap, I will update more photos for Onward fashion show and 100 Friends exhibition another time, soon. So look out for updates. 😉

Lastly I am going for my first internship interview tomorrow and I really hope all things go well and that I get the position. Will update more about it if I get it. *Excited*

Au Revoir~!

Launch of Women’s Fashion Week 2011 Haute Couture Exhibition at Marina Bay Sands

Last Thursday, my girlfriends Bini, Kat and I attended VIP Launch of Women’s Fashion Week Haute Couture Exhibition, thanks to Senatus, the online magazine that’s bringing us all these fashion goodness. 🙂

We had classes in the day, so we proceeded to Bini’s pad to watch half a movie (Drag Me to Hell which was too much for me to bear, so I pleaded / took the remote and shut it :P) before we freshen up and change for the night’s event! We also took the opportunity to spam some photos. ^^V

I really like my new bangs with a new coat of purple dye! ^^

Here’s a picture of us posted on Senatus website. 🙂

A selection of dresses by the 8 french hautes couturiers were on exhibition. Here are just a few that were presented!

This dress is designed by Eymeric Francois.

This is by Gustavo Lins. I like the warrior-like buckle elements of the dress.I forgot to note who designed this purple dress, but it’s one of the most striking coloured dress exhibited. *Update* This dress is designed by Maxime Simoens! 🙂The reason why I post about this dress is because…Blair from Gossip Girl wore it! She is wearing a dress by Maxime Simoens. Note a funny looking Serena standing behind her. 😛 Chairman of WFW 2011 was there to greet the press and VIPs. He says it will be the first time 8 french haute couturiers will be showing outside of Paris! It is such a landmark fashion event, happening in Singapore. 🙂A short preview collection by Alexis Mabille! He says this is a teaser of what he will be showcasing, all of the dresses are white because during his actual runway collection he will showcase his coloured dresses. The models look like fairies in these dresses. There is an ethereal feel and they remind me of how the female immortals dress like in old chinese dramas! Guess where we went after the event?

MBS Cold Storage Specialty store! HAHA.

I thought it’d be funny to take photos with the food and stock. So here are a few goofy shots of us!

With Andy Warhol’s favourite and approved Campbell Soup Can.
One shot of the Queen of Poses!
I meant to head home after the event because I was lugging a big bag but my girlfriends Bel and Jacq convinced me to head out to Overeasy to meet new friends and some drinks. After some drinks our new friends brought us to Avalon as they got us on their friend’s list for the night. So there I was, back at MBS for the second time that night. Haha. The night was uneventful for me, but I can’t say the same for the other girls. 😛 In anycase, here’s the beautiful scenery just outside the club.

Back in those days, Nanyang (as Singapore was then known) was the stuff of dreams. Now in the 21st century, it still is the stuff of dreams and many more to come. 😀

Wishing you a blessed week ahead! Wish me all the best in finding and securing a wonderful internship! I need your prayers!

Robinsons x Mio TV Prime Time Fall Fashion at Avalon Singapore

Hello hello! How’s your October coming along? 😉

Sometime during September, I was invited to Robinsons x Mio TV Prime Time Fall Fashion. Clara of Nom-media (Nuffnang, Churp Churp) called me to confirm my invitation. Clara also invited Eileen, my friend and ex-colleague as they are very close friends. Do check out Eileen’s blog Sylelyn, which I’ve also linked by the side bar! I was very glad Eileen also attended the event and that we got to catch up after a longgg time! x)

Amanda, Clara, Eileen and myself 😉

It was very disappointing that the event started very late. We were invited to arrive at 7.30pm but the show only started at 9.40pm. I was particularly sad that I missed my French class from 7-9pm. I could have attend my French class and still made it for the show. 🙁

Thankfully though, that the fashion show itself was great, it combined both aspects of Robinson’s fashion labels and Mio TV’s upcoming season shows very well. Videos of the shows that inspired the Fall fashion would play before the models came down the runway. 🙂

Unfortunately for me, I forgot to bring my camera. o.O This kind of shows that I’m not really clue-d into the whole blogger identity yet. Oops! So the pictures are taken by pretty Elizabeth, a friend of Eileen and Clara whom I met at the event! 🙂 Do check out her blog here. 🙂

A preview of the shows that Singtel Mio TV has to offer this Fall:

Some of the brands that were showcased includes Eryn Brinie and Rebecca Minkoff.  Most bloggers probably don’t post the gift-bags that the sponsors give away but I like to do so anyway! I mean, who’s not interested to know what the give away includes? 😛

Each gift bag includes a Mio TV tissue box, samples from Kiehl’s and a press release folder. 🙂Here’s what’s inside the Kiehl’s sample set. My friend gave me no.4 blemish clearing control. I’ve been using it and I feel that it’s very mild but it does work. It also has a medicated scent which I find oddly nice. I would like to use their lip balm someday! We were also given hair-conditioner sample (has to be redeemed at the store). That’s all for the event! Next up, Women’s Fashion Week 2011 VIP Reception and Press Announcement at Marina Bay Sands! 🙂

Chanel Fall Winter 2011 Fashion Runway in Singapore

Hello~!

Not too long ago, Bini invited me to attend another fashion event, Chanel Fall Winter 2011 Fashion Runway in Singapore. It was held at Red Dot Museum.

Individual portraits of Bini and I after the show on the ‘runway’.

Doors open for the event at 7.30pm but the event didn’t start until 8.15pm. So there was a holding area with hors d’oeuvres and champagnes served for guest. Then Chanel also entertained guests with two musicians, one playing a modern looking violin and another playing a saxophone, with music blasting. It was pretty interesting as they were trying to interact with the audience (while some scoot away cause they were pretty intimidating). Sorry, no photos of them to show you!

According to FashionOdor.com,

“The world is a dark place,” is what the brilliant Karl Lagerfeld said about the inspiration of Chanel Fall/Winter 2011RTW show. Placed in the midst of the fog-shrouded forest, with black sand, volcanic rocks and images of burned trees, the show had a sense of apocalyptic grandeur accentuated by Michel Gaubert’s orchestral interpretation of the Cure’s classic “A Forest”. Colored in black and ashy tones, the collection blended perfectly with the show’s gloomy setting. The collection abounded with brilliant pieces such as wool jackets, pleated tanks, loose pants and tweed jumpsuits whose men size proportions and the unfinished , distressed hems added a final touch to Karl’s dark vision for this season. What we liked the most about it, is the sense of ease and non-challance, complemented by the ‘gothic meets grunge’ feeling.

Take a look at the video of the Chanel Fall Winter 2011 and listen to the music. The experience I had in Singapore was a pared down, miniature version of the actual set that you’ll see in the video. But the clothes and the music are the same.

Some of the images Bini and I captured during the show.

Personally the collection wasn’t too my liking because in my opinion, cuffed trousers with boots, it was simply too bo-ho for Chanel.

But here are a few designs that I think are lovely. Images are taken from FashionOdor.

I like the heeled boots and the delicate and elegant decorations such as buttons, brooch on the jackets and dress. They represent and showcase the heritage and sophistication of Chanel. 🙂

Chanel also gave away goodie bags for guests. The big black paperbag contained the smaller white bag with cosmetics, the Fall Winter look-book and brochure for their J-12 Chromatic watch.

The look book stars female model Freja Beha Erichsen and male model Baptiste Giabiconi.

Some of the images within the look-book! 🙂

A photo of the J 12 Chromatic within the brochure:And Chanel’s gift for guests, a nail polish in Graphite colour and eyeshadow pot in Ombre. 🙂Another sweet gift from Chanel. They printed the photo that was taken upon entrance and passed it to us in a card-like hard paper frame. 🙂All in all the Chanel Fall Winter 2011 runway experience was a very enjoyable one for me. Even though the guests who were invited were mostly late 20s onwards and quite a few foreigners (so we didn’t quite feel comfortable interacting with them), I think viewing the collection in person was really a treat. Many thanks again to Bini who invited me along as her plus one! 🙂

Coming up next, my experience at Robinson X Singtel Mio TV Prime Time Fall Fashion show at Avalon.

Hermes Festival Des Metiers in Singapore Paragon

Hermès Festival of Crafts, the first  travelling Hermès Festival des Métiers made its first stop in Asia at Paragon, Singapore. A vibrant celebration of renowned Hermès craftsmanship in modern setting by internationally acclaimed Milanese designer Paola Navone, Hermès artisans will be demonstrating at their workbenches the skills of leather welding and stitching of leather goods, saddles, silk engraving and painting of scarves, tie sewing, watch making,  jewelry setting and porcelain painting.

Oh how time really flies! Almost a month ago on 1 September, I had the privilege to enjoy the VIP-only launch of Hermes Festival Des Metiers in Singapore Paragon, at the invitation of my friend, Bini. The showcase was open to public from 3rd September onwards.

Bini’s Hermes eye and arm candy of the night:

It was a wonderful experience, to see the craftsmen and women at work and to see how the tradition of Hermes lives on, with the passion of the people that choose to maintain it. It’s a lot of hardwork to continue producing every piece by hand but it is precisely so that Hermes products are what it’s worth. 😉

If you missed the showcase, here’s a few photographs that Bini and I took from the event! 🙂

Starting off with a young french lady who’s demonstrating how prepares the leather for a Hermes pink leather bag (I can’t remember exactly what bag now :/). At this point, she has combined two pieces of leather and she is working the sides by smoothening it. Basically the crafts-people are all french and only speak french, so there are interpreters next to them to interpret what they are saying.

Then an older lady showing how she prepares the leather to create an Hermes wallet.

Another lady was demonstrating how she paints the porcelain bowls.
In this demonstration, a suave french man is showing how he creates a saddle for a horse. Hermes first started with horse-riding accessories and saddles. So although they don’t sell horse saddles in Singapore (which they do abroad), they are demonstrating this as it’s party of their history and heritage!

In this demonstration, a younger and charming man is showing how he ‘plants’ diamonds on the hardware for Hermes jeweled bracelets. As the diamonds are very small, he does it via a microscope and its… no easy feat!
For the last and perhaps one of the most interesting demonstration is how Hermes masters conduct their silk-screen printing on the legendary Hermes scarfs. The master explains how back in France, they would place 150 scarfs in a row and print all at one go. For tedious prints, there can be up to 40 layers and that would mean they would have to go up and down the row of 150 scarfs 40 times! O.O
This showcase has definitely deepened my understanding and appreciation of Hermes heritage and their strive in delivering luxurious products to their clients. Hopefully you have also gained greater insight about Hermes from this post! 🙂
