Singapore Fashion Week 2015 Recap

Hi loves!

Well you’ve probably seen my IG updates from months back when I attended a few shows from Singapore Fashion Week, mostly the young designers show, namely LASALLE Graduation show & Harpers Bazaar Next Gen show. Also attended the Star Creation & Zalora shows but did not manage to snap any nice photos so there’s none from those shows for this post~ ๐Ÿ˜›

While I definitely enjoyed both LASALLE Grad show and Harpers Bazaar Next Gen show – I find that LASALLE show designs focused more on artistic concepts & were more explorative, understandably as it’s an arts school (and my Alma mater, where I studied Fashion Media & Industries, majoring in Management), while Harpers’ show designs were a lot more “commercialized”, collections that look like they already belonged in the store. There’s no critical judgement from me either ways, as I would love to have pieces from select designers (you’ll know which from my comments/captions below, heh) from both shows in my wardrobe!

Alright, enough with my introductions~2015-05-14 08.54.51 2015-05-14 08.54.53 2015-05-14 08.54.55 2015-05-14 08.54.56Loving my make up for the day, hence the slew of selfies, heh. Am missing my hair from those days before I bleached it. Lol.
2015-05-14 09.37.58Getting ready to meet my inspiration, Miroslava Duma. In case you don’t know her, she was a fashion magazine editor, currently a street style icon and founder of buro247.com – which is now present in more than 7-8 countries featuring luxury fashion and lifestyle topics. She’s extremely well connected, business minded and savvy! While she still look like a teenager, she’s in her thirties and she has 2 kids! Don’t ask me how she does it!

2015-05-14 23.28.40Met up with Sifra my LASALLE school mate & Smita for the talk!
2015-05-14 10.25.37The emcee did such a bad job honestly. Her questions were so bad, some didn’t even make sense. It would have been much better if Duma and Dion Lee interviewed each other. It was such a waste that we did not get to hear more from the two of them as the questions were a waste of time/did not make sense.2015-05-14 23.35.44Nonetheless, with the little that was shared, it was inspiring to hear from Duma, who shared about having good work ethics – you’ve got to work for it,ย don’tย expect things to drop down from the sky!

2015-05-14 14.15.59Snapped a pic of this dude with this crazy and cool tiger head bag.

2015-05-15 21.10.02Headed to Chez Vous to get my hair done for Star Creation later in the evening. Belatedly realize that I should have gone for sleek back hair since I was wearing a rather edgy dress. Ohwells!ย
2015-05-14 22.25.20With cuties Q-li & Jem whom I met at SFW!

Day 2 of SFW, decided to have my hair done at the salon near my place before heading down!

And after it’s done, selfie taken on the cab! Decided to go for a very defined and red carpet-style hair and makeup look. Sleek hair back is actually no longer on trend since it’s been done 2-3 years back, but who cares as long as I like the look, heh!

A while back a group of Clozette ambassadors and I attended Fashion Steps Out 2015 @ Orchard Road and here are the photos from the media preview and actual evening! It’s my second consecutive FSO and I really enjoy the vibrancy of watching the models sashay down the road instead of the traditional runway! Face Your Inner Demons // DEPRESSION Spring Summer 2015 @ DFW2014

DEPRESSION introduced their SS 2015 collection titled “Inner Demons” to much applause at Digital Fashion Week 2014. I love the womenswear in this very street style chic collection and would totes wear all of them out. DEPRESSION is arguably Singapore’s most recognisable local label and that is undoubtedly testament to the super duo Kenny & Andrew’s talent in story telling, persistent and unending efforts in introducing compelling collections every season and cross promotions with brands and celebrities. New and inspiring local designers and labels should definitely study them as a role model on how to succeed in SG and beyond. It is thusย definitely well deserved that they are included in the SG50 book as one of the pride and representative of local brand and talents. Without any more further ado, check out the collection below!

Sects Shop Private Party @ Orchard Gateway

Hi Lovelies <3

I had the pleasure of attending Sects Shop’s Private Party @ Orchard Gateway a while back. ๐Ÿ™‚

For the uninitiated, Sect’s Shop is a new concept shop with a focus on Men’s street wear; brought to you by the same folks behind Depression, the local cult label that’s going international. It’s a privilege to have seen them go from Blueprint Tradeshow back in 2011 to Seoul Fashion Shows in 2014. Altho most of their brands are men’s focused apparels, brands such as NCE; which stands for Not Cool Enough bring in unisex apparels and well, girls can always wear guy’s shirts as oversized, ala boyfriend style. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Street style in monotone just spells cool chic addiction, to me at least. Well, I’m not gonna continue to wax lyrical about Sects Shop and NCE because trust me, I can go on all day.

I tried on this NCE varsity and fell in love…

In what seems like my pea brain memory, I had photo records of their store in my phone; but for the life of me I cannot track it down where I saved it on my laptop. Nonetheless, it was quite easy for me to sieve out these pics from Sect Shop’s FB page to show you their cool warehouse, raw and laidback interior & street style fashion.

Best of Blueprint Tradeshow 2014

Hi Lovelies! <3

I was at Blueprint Tradeshow 2014 and here’s a selection of my version of Best of Blueprint Tradeshow 2014.
For more info., you may refer to their official site here.
There’s some 200 local and international labels, of which I’m featuring about 20 here, enjoy!

Ana Faye

Ireland. Website here. Full 2015 lookbook here.

Before the tradeshow, I was invited down to her booth by Ana Faye, who found me online while search for press/blog releases online for previous yearsBlueprint. Ana Faye hails from Ireland, having worked as a fashion and accessories designer for several years in London, Italy and China, her love for handbags and Ireland led her back home to start designing and making her own unique line of leather bags. She now stocks all over Ireland, UK, Europe and the USA and is looking to expand into Asia.

Next up we have NatalieBColeman, also an Irish designer with confident and bold womenswear designs with a tinge of quirkiness. She presented a new FW 2014 collection that I love, which unfortunately at this point in time I don’t have the press images.

So so, I only had an hour’s breeze around the Blueprint Tradeshow,
as such the labels below are the brands I see on the handbook which I like and selected to feature here.

In case you’re wondering, the premise of which I decide to feature these brands are based; mainly on what I like, which is womenswear, and a kind of aesthetics veering towards contemporary chic and irreverent. ๐Ÿ™‚

American Retro

Lookbook in larger images/pdf here.

Irreverent slogan tees, varsity jackets, knee high socks, pink leather jackets, pencil skirts, suited blazers. Effortless cool, that’s what they are. The non-basic basics of American fashion editors and fashionistas. I am in love with the brand. My only complain is the name, American Retro – it just conjures the image of a deserted American Petrol Kiosk, which I feel isn’t relevant today. Perhaps something more updated would be better. Nonetheless, the name does explain the heritage of the brand, the french designers went to US and came back inspired to design a collection and brand.

Ange Rรฉvolte

Singapore. Website here.

Titled Metaphor, Pre-Fall 2014 Collection, where there is light, there’s darkness, where there’s good, there’s bad. Frankly I think that black and white has been done to death by local designers, but there’s something still refreshing about this collections; the little details, the geometric cuts and designs, would definitely wear them. Full collection here. Fall collection also out here.

Bitching & Junkfood

UK. Website here. FB here.

There isn’t much images available from their official site, wanted to show you their SS14 collection/lookbook but couldn’t find it so I’m showing photos posted on their FB to show you a glimpse of their brand and irreverent style, which is obviously totally in line with their name, ya’know.

Panayo FW 2014/15 Urban Nomad

Hi Lovelies! <3

Today I want to introduce a local label, Panayo. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The apparels are predominantly minimalistic and classy with structural twist. Panayล experiment with geometry, bold cuts and shapes to conjure unique patterns. Panayล is an Ancient Sanskrit word (เคชเคจเคฏเฅ‹) equivalent for confidence. ย  For more info. refer to their site about page here.

Panayo’s FW 2014/15 collection is titled Urban Nomad and their pieces can be found at stockists or bought online. More of that later.

Photos first! ๐Ÿ˜€

THE WONDER WANDERERS

Nomadic Pastoralism “Nomads” is a result of the Neolithic revolution where humans adapt to environmental conditions and migrates to exploit scarce resources. This movementย has been dubbed as one of the great advances in the evolution of mankind.ย Over the centuries, Tibetan nomads “ndrogba” (ย เฝ เฝ–เพฒเฝผเฝ‚เผ‹เฝ”เผ (ย เฝ เฝ–เพฒเฝผเฝ‚เผ‹เฝ”เผ) overcame the harsh mountain ecosystem that offers little and strived on moving through the wandering lustre of green grasslands and hills of the romantic Tibetan plateau.ย

ย

The nature of nomadic fashion styles are testaments to practicality and functionality of simple sophistication with a touch of unique and distinctive flair which is intertwined to the romanticism of flowy green pastures in the midst of hostility.ย “ndrogba” dons on multiple layers of clothing that enables them to adapt to varieties of environmental conditions.ย These layered flowy look creates visually stunning overall appeal, one that is iconic to Tibetan nomads.

There is real beauty in their fashion and life alike. The nomadsย did more than just survive. They created a unique, vibrant and colourfulย culture that depicts the triumph of humanity over adverse circumstances and conformity.ย

Surreal, but closely knitted to the fate of urban nomad in the face of globalization.

“Urban Nomad” is a modern wanderer; a dreamer – of not just things material but immaterial too; from sensuous to spiritual. Home is but a relative concept that is devoid of any attachment to fixation. The concept of flow is aligned to their intellect. Urban Nomad is slave to nothing, not even fashion, but has perceived fashion as the way they deem fit.

My picks from the collection:
