Sephora Opens in Suntec City Mall

This is a pretty late entry (I will try to blog more promptly in future), but back in early Sep, 5th of September to be exact, I accompanied a friend with Sephora’s White Card (VIP member card) and went down for Sephora’s new store launch at Suntec City Mall. 🙂

I’ll let the photos do the talking and end off with a review of Sephora’s Suntec City Mall outlet launch event, also named “Beauty Night Out”. If you’ve read a post I wrote previously on “My Business Ideas“, in it I wrote that I’d love to have a beauty (makeup and skincare line) some day, so attending these events are not only great for my current job networking but also research for the future, heh. 🙂

Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening 1
Pardon the blurriness, not easy taking a clear shot with one hand. That was a goodie bag (box to be exact) tag for guests to claim at the end of the event. I forgot to take a snap of the box, but I will review a part of the box, to be explained later.
Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening 2 Lancome
Several makeover booths by various brands stocked at Sephora. Each with obvious branding, this being Lancome. Surprisingly, there were not many queuing, I guess most came with made up faces!
Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening 3 Lady Jayne
I have no idea what brand Lady Jayne is. I will google and share with you my findings. I am proud to say that I am proud of my google skills. Haha. #random

Ahh.. It is a hair accessories and styling brand from Australia. For more about them, check out their website http://www.ladyjayne.com.au/. They have a SG Facebook page here.

Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening Benefit Clinique
Makeup booths at a glance, Benefit, Makeupforever and Clinique. And ostensibly bigger crowd here, but what you can’t see from this angle are the Ciate nail booths before the makeup booths.
Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening Ciate Bar
I think these were my favourite part of the entire pampering offers! Ciate is an exquisite nail polish brand with quirky nail ideas like Caviar manicure and chalkboard polishes, for example. As a beauty user, I tend to trust and buy a brand after testing, so this in my opinion is great for guests. However, I was not in the mood that day to actually test them, as I didn’t want to squeeze with the crowd. :/

Because I think you’d appreciate me sharing with you images of Ciate Caviar Manicure and chalkboard polishes, in case you have not seen them before!:

ciate_caviar_manicure_pink
Don’t ask me why they needed to put the tiny balls on the lips when it’s only meant for the nails.
caviar-manicure-11
So pretty isn’t it? 🙂

You can buy it on Amazon here at USD$25. (You’re most welcome.)

ciate-caviar-manicure-set

You can get the white one here and black one here, on Amazon.

Those cute little black ribbons just kills it doesn’t it? Makes these cute little bottles so charming!  I am a sucker for ribbons, totally.

Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening Ciate Nails
Nope, those obviously weren’t my hands. But proof that the booth though well equipped with sample / tester bottles, had too little space than demand required.
Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening Fragrance Bar
A nifty frangrance bar offering engraving services for guests who purchase fragrances on that day. I think that’s a pretty neat service and will KIV this thoughtful service for a gift idea someday.
Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening Ice Cream Bar
My second favourite part of the event, ICE CREAM. I die. The ice cream wasn’t perfect, I had mango flavour which was so-so, but any event that has free ice cream immediately scores high on my books. I won’t deny that I have a sweet tooth.
Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening Nail Bar
Ok, I will admit, I did not quite get this. It says “Get Nailed” but it’s a legit alcohol serving bar! So I was expecting it to be a real nails pampering bar, but I think they meant more like get nailed/drunk. Sorry I am not fancy enough to get it the first time (if that’s what they meant). Haha! Wasn’t in the mood for wine that day (next day Friday still have to get to work) so too bad!
Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening 11
Sephora invited several local TV and theatre celebs down as well as a what seems like tertiary cheerleading group down for a performance followed by rah-rah entry to the store’s grand launch.
Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening 12
Sorry again for this being blur, as a result of me being highly amused and equally shy to be walking down the red carpet while flanked by cheerleaders cheering and smiling on like we were runners onwards the last lap towards the finishing line!
Sephora Suntec City Mall Opening 13
And a finally clear shot of the store front. The huge Sephora eye palette like wall/stand is where they stored all the goodie boxes for guest to redeem before leaving.

My thoughts:

The Good

It’s always nice to start off with what was good, or great. I thought the free makeovers and nail booths were very generous indeed. I liked that the venue was spacious while still feeling cosy and the handful of local celebs and another handful of famous/semi-famous (depends on how you look at it, if you know them they’re famous but if you don’t then they are not) bloggers like LadyIronChef and Melody Yap and many more makes one feel good to hobb nobb with an exclusive crowd. I also had my star moment, meeting Oon Shu Ann of Tried and Tested on Clicknetwork.tv and I wanted to take a picture with her but also shy and afraid I’d disturb her. (So unlike me, I know.) I liked the free flow of sweet bites and drinks. And the atmosphere of the event was very appropriate for an opening, understandably very enthusiastic with a host and video crew to engage the crowd’s interest throughout the night’s event. The goodie box, without a comparison, was not bad with several tester size products. I took an Urban Decay pouch and passed my colleagues the rest. I will try to review the tester products! 🙂 The photo-booth was really cute, if not for the fact that I wasn’t dressed for the occasion (I woke up that morning and forgot I had to attend the event) I would most certainly have posed gamely for it.

The Not so sure

I can’t say that I enjoyed the rousing cheer leading performance and the lead into the new store. It felt like it was a civilized version of a Lion Dance that got me very amused. I am not sure what stores usually do for openings, but I do think a local band performance with cute male and female models/talents flanking the grand opening entry will be more palatable for me.

For those of you who don’t know what a Lion Dance is, you may check and watch the above video to acquaint yourself with something quintessentially Asian, and perhaps soon to be dying traditional and cultural form of dance.

The Bad

As a VIP card holder’s invited guest, my friend (the card holder) and I were disappointed that we were given a goodie box, without a bag to bring home while we saw the media folks bring home what seemed like a very generous bag 4 times the size of what we had. As a marketer by day, it is a lesson I will learn for any brand/s I may manage now or in the future. I think VIP guests (and their friends who are likely to convert to VIP guests as well) are a big deal to any brand and they should not have to feel slighted at any event. Perhaps the organizer should take note to separate the guests and media event, so the former won’t have to feel slighted by the latter. Also, please, provide a bag for your guests so they won’t have to go to another store and be offered by the store with their bag. Which is what happened, my friend went to Royce to get chocolates and the nice store lady offered us their paper bags.

Additional Thoughts

I generally like Sephora’s clean and sleek image with a black and white colour theme so that all the pretty beauty and skincare products will stand out against their simple scheme. However at times, it can be intimidating when the space is empty (i.e. no one is around) and I will tend to want to exit as fast as I can as I don’t feel comfortable just browsing casually. I also understand that it’s Sephora’s branding policy to keep their brand element consistent, but I can’t help but feel, am I the only one that gets bored of brands that look the same every where? I much prefer H&M’s concept, to jazz things up a little with each venue, so no two shops look identical. What do you think? 🙂

Why a girl shops and how to RESIST the temptation!

Little girl with shopping bags
Ohhhh yes, THAT face of satisfaction and embarrasement in one when damage’s done. Source: ColourBox.com

I’ve been on a little shopping spree…

Bought items (3 dresses & 4 pairs of shoes to be exact) from GoJane.com on Tuesday night and I bought a pair of strapped wedges from Charles and Keith and was tempted to also get a Fendi inspired red bag in the window…

Why do we like to shop so much?

Let me list the reasons why.

Girls will never have enough of:

1. Lipstick colours. See my previous post on sampling Etude House lip colours and how I want them all, seriously.

2. Shoes of different types like flat, heels, wedges, running shoes, etc.

3. Bags of different types and colours like bucket bag in country plaid, red, black or tab work /office bag, pink or other favorite colour day/ date bag, hand purse or clutch for dinners or formal events. (Read: it can be both a boon or a bane to be a girl)

So the eternal question: how do we RESIST the temptation???

1. Decide on the chosen item and budget you have to buy.

2. When you are out and you are shopping keep to your budget. Don’t waver.

3. When you waver, decide you MAY get it ANOTHER DAY. So you leave the shop, and go back another time. If it’s gone the next time you’re there, then it’s just not meant to be, besides you didn’t plan to buy it anyways! But if you go back the next time, it’ll be planned. 😀

As for Online shopping….

1. Put your Credit Card far far far away. Ask your mum to safe keep it from you when you are browsing online and

2. When you want to buy the items, review them with your mum or sister or best friend and ask for honest opinion if it is 1. really necessary 2. within your budget 3. not a replicate of what you already have.

Any other effective tips you have that I have missed out? 🙂

xo

P.S. Here are the sale items I got from GoJane. 😀
My colleague says the quality isn’t great, the shoes will last a year, tops. But at those prices USD$10+ per pair, I don’t need them to last that long either! HA.
Can’t wait to have them shipped over, will do a haul post, or maybe even a video then!

As part of the event, ESYE was also on the look out for the Face of ESYE. I was one of the 4 finalist and although I didn’t win the first price, the ESYE organizers later awarded me Miss Congeniality and $400 worth of products! (^^,) I will update photos when I have redeemed the products. 🙂

Fall Fashion IT Bags 2012 – Clutches Edition

Hi lovelies!

Recently I blogged about Fall (in Love) Fashion IT handbags and I’m following up with a Clutches Edition! I’m excited to be posting about them because I’ve selected a pretty long list of 42 clutches across 5 themes. I’m fairly certain that at least 1 of them will tickle your fancy. Haha!

1. Glamorous Renaissance

Fall Winter season is the season for lots of partying and gatherings, thus it’s natural for the bags to reflect the opulence of the season! These choices are great for formal gala dinners and events.

Kotur is a bag label that began in 2004 and I am absolutely in love with her abstract designs! Very architectural and avant garde.

Olympia Le-tan

If you haven’t heard, all of Olympia Le-tan bags are handmade, and limited to only 16 of each design, with the ‘first edition’ handmade by LeTan herself. Her bags range from 1000 pounds and above. Most of them resemble book covers, and have been touted the “intellectual” (maybe more aptly as pseudo intellectual, haha!) bags. Anyhoo, getting a Le-Tan bag is a quirky and unique addition to a consummate fashion bag collector’s collection! (;

Pierre Hardy

Pierre Hardy the designer is born and raised in Paris. He is currently the creative director of Hermes’ jewelry division. His label specializes in shoes and bags for men and women.

I am in love with the bag.

5. Chic & Simple

For the lovers of the chic & simple style, here are some selection that I love and I think you’ll love too! A chic & simple bag is also perfect if you’re wearing fancy and elaborate gown and shoes to achieve a balance attire. (;

Now it’s your turn to tell me, which are your favourites and why?

Fall (in Love) Fashion IT Bags 2012

Hi ! *Waves excitedly*

The long awaited post is finally here! Here are my top picks for Fall Winter 2012 handbags! (:

Dolce & Gabbana Embroidered Bags

Dolce & Gabbana’s created a beautiful and intricate Fall Winter 2012 collection inspired by the Renaissance motifs. Carrying these bags would resemble carrying pieces of art on your arms. I will be posting up selected photos of Dolce & Gabbana’s runway looks in an upcoming Fall Winter key highlights post, so do watch out for that! (;

Chanel Le Boy Flap Bag in AlligatorThis, my dear friends, Chanel’s Le Boy is fashion’s next IT bag. From what I’ve heard, they are already sold out in Paris! If you can afford it, this is the bag to add to your collection as it’s a classic design that’s sure to stand the test of time.

3.1Phillip Satchel

Personally i think the 3.1Phillip Lim satchel is distinctive and beautifully laid-back. It’s been around for sometime and I know I’m gonna sound overly dramatic but I feel that most people aren’t aware of just how beautiful it is.

Alexander McQueen Heroine

I spotted the Heroine bag months back when images of the FW bags first came out but it wasn’t until in July when I saw the variations (Leopard, Leather and Suede) that it really drew my attention. LDN Fashion describes it this way, “The design is elegant and classic, but retains that distinctly McQueen edge attitude.” I think the Heroine bag stands a chance to replace Celine’s luggage tote. What do you think?

Jason Wu Kate Python Embossed Calfskin bag

Jason Wu’s Kate bag takes after The Row’s square shaped bag. I’m guessing it’s gonna be a fraction of what The Row’s bag asks for, since it’s faux python/calfskin leather. But what I love about this bag? It’s super sprightly lemon green colour. ^^

DVF Fall Winter Bags 2012

I chose to feature these DVF bags because the colours are so spot on and trendy. As you know, I love fuchsia (IKR, it’s all over my blogskin!) and haven’t you heard, oxblood is Fall Winter’s 2012 key colour!

Anya Hindmarch Fall Winter Bags 2012

Anya Hindmarch’s claim to fame was her “I’m not a plastic bag” bag back in 2007/08. Handbag designer Hindmarch is very conscientious about compartments in handbags and I like how this bag is very practically designed with trendy colours and glitter! Which reminds me of another design I’ve seen recently, the Tiny Tim Light Up , it’s really cute.

Anya Hindmarch Tiny Tim Light Up

It’s a LED lighted bag that’s sure to make you the center of attention if you carry it on the dance floor, LOL.

Tod’s Fall Winter 2012 Bags

I was flipping through the magazines and Tod’s plum bag caught my attention. But alas, I think it looks better on the model / magazine spread then it does on its own. Tod’s bags are great for more formal events and work, plus it looks comfortably roomy!

That’s all for now! Let me know if you decide to get one of the choices above for this coming Fall Winter so that I can bask in your joy as well! Or let me know if you have a Fall Winter bag favourite which is not mentioned in this post! (;

Pop Up Store W.E. Workshop Element @ Wisma

Hi !

After a couple of non-fashion related posts, we’re back to fashion again! (;

I read about the news of W.E. Workshop Element back in August when it first launched but it’s not to late to announce it here on my blog because they’re still gonna be around for another 7 months! #Teehee.

According to their Facebook page:

W.E. – ‘workshop element’ is a retail platform gathering creative peoples’ work initiated by Singapore’s very own Alfie Leong.

More info. via RockTheTrend:

This new retail pop-up store officially launches today 17th of August, and will remain where it is for eight months. W.E. showcases an all-local ensemble of fashion designers and curators, a first of its kind space here, all 6,000 sq ft of it. The line-up of 19 brands and 16 designers/curators include young, emerging upstarts, veteran designers and fashion’s most familiar names. Local top model Sheila Sim‘s new clothing line Sceneplicity will also be included.

Check out the list of designers:

Image from W.E. Facebook

Just a few designers I’d like to highlight from the store:

Ling Wu is for the wanderers and urban warriors who are effortlessly cool, restless with energy and keen to veer off the beaten path.

Mystic Vintage by Jason Tong & Alvin Tan.
Mystic Vintage is an eyewear brand which carries the finest lineage of iconic and vintage frames. In 2010, they launched ‘Lullaby’, a modern frame which was inspired by the iconic vintage designs of the 70s.
I will definitely go down to check out the place within the next 7 months and will update my   experience when I do!

Studded shoes!

I went shopping today! I meant to head down to City Plaza (Near Paya Lebar Mrt Station) to check out the store, Skim. City Plaza has a lot of wholesale/retails stores so you can get clothes at quite a bargain if you buy a few pieces at a go, ideal when shopping with friends! So the store Skim is one such store and I like their designs that I saw on their website. But when I went down to see the pieces, I didn’t buy anything from the store but I ended up with several other stuff from other stores!

Among which are two shoes, like this studded pair…

And this flat with skull decor! 🙂I promised myself that I won’t buy cheap shoes, especially after purchasing Rubi’s 2 for $30 (or something like that) but I couldn’t resist buying these… They were only $12.90 each, I reckoned I should get them cause my heart won’t break even if they do. Lol!

I also got pretty vest, tops and skirts. New clothes for school, yay! It’s nice that I’m a fashion student so I can wear fancy clothes to school when I like it. It can be a pressure to dress up sometimes but we mostly dress simply, albeit with style. 🙂 We don’t wreck our heads as to what we’d wear to school each day (although Bini does sometimes, lol) and when we’re running late, anything goes!  I think I will try to take more pictures of what my friends and I dress to school when school starts! I dare say that Lasalle students are the coolest and most stylishly dressed bunch in Singapore. 😉

School timetable’s not out yet and I was just talking to Azalea, a classmate about it on FB. We are getting quite psyched about school starting and happy that our “orientation” is on Monday morning and not held this week, which is the case for other level 2 fashion comm/design students. Woohoo!

Enjoying my week thus far, hope you are too!

Xx

Members Only Retail Sites | Singsale Vs Ideeli

Update: @Ideeli actually tweeted me back after I tweeted about this post, to inform that they don’t ship to Singapore, yet. Oops, sorry for the assumption! Let’s wait till Ideeli ships to Singapore! But even if they don’t, can still use Vpost service ya! 🙂

Hello!

Have you heard of Ideeli or Singsale? They are basically members only retails sites that I’ve been introduced to by my friends recently and I’d like to share with you!

As taken from their website, “Singsale is a leading members-only online shopping club in Singapore and the doorway to affordable designer fashion. Every day we host sales for the top fashion brands in the world.  Singsale members can access these sales and enjoy savings of up to 80% on ladies, men’s and children’s fashion and accessories as well as beauty and homeware brands.”

Ideeli’s brand profile’s pretty similar. “ideeli is a leading members-only retail site that delivers a fun and engaging daily shopping experience with a curated selection of offerings across the categories of apparel, accessories, home, shoes, kids, travel and experiences – all available at privileged prices.”

After checking out their sites, here are the few differences I’ve found:

  • Singsale which is under APAC group, hosts mainly Australian brands while Ideeli, being American, hosts mainly American brands.
  • Singsale charges $8.50 for shipping to Singapore while Ideeli charges $9.95. Which is reasonable, as America is further than Australia.
  • Singsale limits members to one sale event at a time on their site while Ideeli allows their member to open as many tabs to as many sale events available on their site.
  • Singsale requires members to check out their items with each sale event while Ideeli allows members to check out with items from different sales event.
  • Singsale states a general 2-4 weeks for shipping period while Ideeli will specify how long the specific product will take to ship, usually from 1-2 weeks, which is faster.
  • Singsale rewards members with S$10, while Ideeli rewards US$25 if their invitees purchase from the site…
Which brings me to the point… Sign up for Singsale and Ideeli (which I’ve linked with my invite code) and not only will you’ll enjoy great savings but I’ll also be rewarded for inviting you if you make a purchase! You can also then invite your friends and stand to be rewarded! 😉 From here, I’ll let the pictures do the talking!
Singsale (Prices in S$)
Cherrylane / Hood Biker Jacket-8451-Black $33.95 UP$110.00
Um, I’ve always wanted a leather jacket, but I won’t be buying this although it’s cheap cause I want one that’s not too thick for Singapore’s hot weather. And I assume it is thick cause it’s from Australia where it’s cold… lol.
Mavi Jeans – Butchers Hook / Rack Women’s s/s scoop V-Neck-XP1016100-White – $13.95 UP $39.00
I have to say, white V-neck tees is one of my favourite staples and this would be cheap especially if you buy more to make the most of the shipping costs. They have the shirt in other colours as well as in men’s!
Mavi Jeans – Butchers Hook / Chop – mens s/sl V-Neck-XP0002100-White Premium
The model looks awkward...
Board shorts with cool cosmic prints!
The Boot Australia / Ladies Short Ugg-Sbi002-Pink – $19.50 UP$81.00
Honestly I’m not a fan of Uggs boots cause they’re not really pretty and I think they look warm and weird for Singapore. But if you’re channeling cute Japanese style (like Xiaxue) you can totally grab these at a steal! Ok, there are actually a few more deals at Singsale right now, selling men’s clothes as well as Kitchenware and Kids-wear and home ware… which I’m totally not into. So you can check them out on your own! 🙂
Now going on to..
Ideeli (Prices in US$)
Michael by Michael Kor Colourblock Sweater Dress – $59.00 UP $135.00

I love black, white, grey and dresses in this combination! I’ve come to realize that I’m very, almost too conservative for a fashion student. But it could also be that I just like the professionalism of these grey-scale colours. In any case, I’ve been controlling myself to not buy too many black dresses and to explore more colours, like peach, navy blue and printed dresses. 🙂 Going back to this dress, i think that it’s a good deal for a brand name like Michael by Michael Kor. And the thing about prestigious brand names is that you know they won’t compromise on material and quality.
BCBGeneration Sweatshirt Top – $29.00  UP $88.00

I like the silver detail on the top, it’s both stylish and laid-back at the same time!
RENE ROFE Dot Girl Push Up Bra/Bikini Set – $10.00 UP $22.00
You should know by now that I really like black and pink colour combination… even for underwear, lol! I really enjoy “window shopping” on these sales sites because I am exposed to more brands out there. 🙂 Never heard of Rene Rofe previously, but after seeing their sales event on Ideeli, and a short google on them, I know they’re an American brand with cute and affordable designs! Not sure about their quality but it looks pretty decent and fitting!

I wanted to purchase a bra and boyshort set from Rene Rofe’s sale but alas, they didn’t have them in my size… Of course, there is the concern of fit, but as with most online shopping, going with the standard sizing is pretty safe. I digress, I’m usually size M for tops and dresses so it’s pretty easy to shop in stores or online! Thankful that shopping for clothes can be a breeze with regards to sizing cause there’s usually plenty in my size, hehe. 🙂
R&M RICHARDS Twofer Dress with Tucking – $39.00  $90.00
This is a pretty working dress! Good for office and teaching wear.
From my preliminary research into the two sites, It’s pretty clear that they are primarily targeting working office ladies, followed by possibly tech-savvy stay home moms, then working men. There’s abundant of female work wear, casual wear, accessories, shoes and bags in both sites. And majority are quite conservative designs. But it’s definitely still worth the time to check the sites out for the minority cool designs on big discount! 🙂
I shall repeat here and save you the trouble of scrolling up,  Sign up for Singsale and Ideeli (which I’ve linked with my invite code) and not only will you’ll enjoy great savings but I’ll also be rewarded for inviting you if you make a purchase! You can also then invite your friends and stand to be rewarded! 😉

Good Day ^^

Had an eventful and fun day!  Ok by now it’s yesterday, but ohh whatever~ 😛

Thank God, got into the specialism of my choice, Fashion Management. Was discussing with Beatrice, my classmate that seems like most people get into their choice of course, with interview or not. The great news for us management students is that we didn’t need interview unlike all the other course – design, textile & comm! ^^ Woohoooooo I sorta didn’t want an interview cause it’s you know, so unnecessary… hehehe… Anyway can you tell I’m in a good mood and I’m more verbose so let me go on. Circe (our fashion course head, who also lectures/heads fashion management) was saying how this year’s FM students makes the “dream team”, with impressive grades to boot… woohoo… I’m praying we’ll all make an awesomest class of students!!! *claps hand close eyes bows head

thennn in cheeryyy mood I bought my new wallet and new diary for new year 2011 (yes v early but I have 20% member’s discount from kikki. k. :D) this is so lame but girls get v excited over things they buy, ok.

and met up with friends for dinnerrr movieeee and sushii during movie omgosh love. anyways im now on a lookout for people to hang with while im free but most if not all my lovely girlies are mad busy studying… yingling.. ming.. my sis… it’s not funny… so i hang with martin.. ian.. joshua.. dafril… mostly the boys that ORD! hahaha congrats man guys so happy for you all new found freedom. I am rambling ok. I think they don’t even read my blog. haha. ok byes!
