Decadent Scents with Penhaligon’s Singapore

A while ago Leanne & I popped by Penhaligon’s at Marina Bay Sands for a cosy and intimate Fragrance Profiling session. It was my first experience with Penhaligon’s despite passing by their ION store on several occasion, amazed by the antique yet quirky interior. Penhaligon’s is a perfect paradox; a blend of both traditional British heritage and modern technology & design to develop scents that are relevant to today’s lifestyle.

Penhaligon’s is founded by William Penhaligon who started as a hairdresser at the famous Piccadilly Turkish Baths on Jermyn Street in London before his keen eye for business led him to open a new salon down the street a few years later. Thus Penhaligon’s was born when he started to create his own scents, lotions and potions for his discerning clientele.

At every Penhaligon’s store you will see two Royal Warrants from The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh respectively, a mark of recognition for supplying goods and services to the Royal Family. This royal link was forged over 140 years ago when founder Penhaligon was appointed Royal Barber and Ferfumer to the Royal Court during Queen Victoria’s reign and Penhaligon’s was granted its first Royal Warrant from Queen Alexandra in 1903.

Today, Penhaligon’s scents are still made and bottled in England, the signature Penhaligon’s fragrance bottle echoes William’s original design; clear glass with a distinctive ribbon wrapped stopper. Even though Penhaligon’s is over 140 years old, exploring new fragrance technology is at the very heart of what they do.

Penhaligon’s Fragrance Profiling service is a fascinating and extravagant way to help customers find their perfect Penhaligon’s scent. This exclusive service is available at all their boutiques. The fragrance expert will first explore the customer’s fragrance tastes and build a personality profile while engaging in conversation. Then they will introduce the various fragrance families; citrus, floral, etc and watch the client’s reactions. Once a fragrance family is decided, further scented strips are presented to the client, narrowing the choices until only 2 are left. The client is then encouraged to try the two scents on their skin to see how they react to their skin chemistry. The final choice fragrance is then revealed. This experience normally lasts 30 minutes to a hour and is accompanied by tea, biscuits or even a glass of champagne. 😉

We were also introduced to their new (back in July, not so new by now, oops) perfume Tralala, inspired by the fantastical universe of Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchkoff, designers behind Meadham Kirchhoff. Meadham Kirchhoff’s shows have been scented by Penhaligon’s for the past nine seasons and Tralala marks the first signature scent collaboration. Tralala is an opulent, hedonistic blend created by Master Perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour.

If you love a deep, musky and sensual scent, this would be perfect for you. A few of the scents I love are featured above; Peoneve & Eau Sans Pareil. They are floral and lighter in nature, just the way I like my fragrance! 😉
