5 Hair Care Tips with Calvin Gan to #GetSassooned

Today I’d like to share 5 tips to pamper your hair!
Watch and learn as hair stylist Calvin Gan treats Oon Shu An’s hair in this video:

1. Prep It
First, shampoo. An essential first step in keeping hair gently cleansed and moisturized from root to tips.

2. Work It
Use premium care conditioners to deeply nourish and thoroughly condition every strand.

3. Protect It
Using Vidal Sassoon’s Intensive Hair Mask, smoothens cuticle texture, prevents hair follicle from drying out.

4. Treat It
Treat it with Vidal Sassoon’s concentrated Amino Salon Essence formula.

5. Perfect It
Finally, perfect that style with Magic Style Activator for Curls, keeping hair frizz free and gives curled hair a soft, bouncy, natural finish that stays on for the entire day.

For the uninitiated, Vidal Sassoon is a brand that hails from the UK:
At the height of the mod 1960s, the original salon genius Vidal Sassoon revolutionised the hairdressing industry with his precise, unapologetically modern geometric cuts and chic, swingy bobs. Driven by an insatiable curiosity to understand and bring forward the future, he blended influences from the worlds of fashion and design, to create a signature style which changed the face of female beauty.

Local actress Joanne Peh is Singapore’s first Vidal Sassoon’s ambassador and
she was given the Vidal Sassoon treatment, where she traded her silky locks for a trendy bob:

F7789DFF34E07F306AC83C82D7FC36 Joanna Peh Vidal Sassoon 2 Joanne Peh Vidal Sassoon

I think it’s a bold, experimental and fashionable look and it gives Joanne Peh an edgy feel, especially after seeing her for years in her shoulder length hair. Check out the full xinmsn feature here and her video feature on youtube here. 😉

Vidal Sassoon products are available at Watsons & Guardian stores in Singapore.

Thanks to Vidal Sassoon for the press release.

you would know that I was very pleased with my copper red hair.
so you can imagine my delight when I received an email from their PR, inviting me for a hair service! ^^

Without further ado, let me know you photos from my eXperience with them this time around~

I last had my hair dyed at a neighbourhood salon and the lady didn’t dye my hair roots for a longer time, that’s why I had
unevenly dyed hair, with darker hair at the roots and lighter hair at the middle and ends. >.<

Majolica Majorca & Ma Chérie Floral Enchantress Blogger Event

Have I told you how much I like Majolica Majorca products?

Oh yes I have, I shall quite egoistically quote myself here. 😛

"I love this brand for its fantasy concept… It’s so beautiful lah! *^^* "
 - Ena Teo, Blogger of Enabalista.com

the quote is taken from my previous post, about the Matsuri Day Beauty workshop I attended previously. 🙂

It’s always a pleasure to attend Shishedo events because the team always put in so much creativity & personalization, creating a magical and exciting atmosphere. ^^

This time, it’s the Majolica Majorca x Ma Chérie Floral Enchantress Bloggers’ Event~

At the last ZA event, bloggers were introduced to a reading of “My Lip Personality” based on their lip shape. This time, we got a reading of our Hair, Lips & Eyes character, based on what our favourite styles were! Majolica Majorca x Ma Cherie Floral Enchantress Blogger Event Enabalista 9 Majolica Majorca x Ma Cherie Floral Enchantress Blogger Event Enabalista 8

This game required us to pitch the “crystal” balls through the holes in order to win beauty goodies. On a side note, another of their fun fact says “The World’s first ever cosmetics were created from copper and lead ore by ancient Egyptians” Lead cause poisoning! Aren’t we glad that technology has improved thus far so that we can actually have safe beauty products? >.<

My eye, hair & lip character reading:

The Sweet Surrender
You’re a combination of sugar & spice, but the twist is your sweetness is the mystery.

The Delectable Mist
You are a motivated & career oriented girl but when the time comes, you can still be playful & cheeky.

The Tantalize Caress
You wear your heart on your sleeve, but your sweetness & soft nature wins the hearts of many.

I think the reading is really quite generic except for the hair reading. HAHA. I am really a motivated and career oriented girl and can be playful when I want to be!

Most recently, Ma Chérie has introduced their refill packs to the market, which is great because it’s environmentally friendly and returning customers get the same amount of goodness at a lower cost! Yay!

The Secret of Ma Chérie’s products is their Champagne Honey Gelee which is a formulation that protects hair from oxidative stress (I wiki-ed to read what it’s about, simply put it means damage to cells from the outside environment…), retains moisture, softens and adds shine to hair. For the specific ingredients and function breakdown you can read from the image above. 😉

Ma Chérie has two range:

1. Air Feel
for volume and shine to fine hair

2. Moisture
for silky lingering smoothness that treats dry ends

Be sure to follow Majolica Majorca and Ma Chérie on their Facebook here and here for their latest product updates, beauty and skin care tips & product giveaways! I won a Majolica Majorca 10th Anniversary Press Kit by taking part in their Facebook giveaway recently, which I’ll blog about soon~ I was really happy to win it cause a blogger won it at the last event and I really really like the Press Kit that came in a classic book box! >.< Us girls and our love for pretty packaging!

L’Oreal Paris Bloggers’ Event & New EverStrong Thickening Hair & Scalp System Review

Hi lovelies~

I hope you’re enjoying your weekend, like I am~ ^^

A few weeks back, I attended the L’Oreal Paris Hair Bloggers’ Event. Today I’m gonna blog about the event and my reviews of their products from the new range, EVERSTRONG Thickening Sulfate Free Hair & Scalp system. 😉

The bloggers’ event was held at Lime House, 2 Jiak Chuan Road, an in-road from Keong Saik Street.
Heading back there brought back a flood of memories because Keong Saik Street was where I started my first job after JC. The place has changed quite a bit, lesser dingy pubs and more classy restaurants catering to tourists and expats. But it still has that old school charm. I would definitely head back and explore this place again.
The finger food and beverages were just right to feed our empty bellies before the presentation started. After the presentation, we had the chance to have our scalp tested and put our creatively to good use for some floral arrangement!

I love floral arrangements because I love flowers, the beauty they embody and the sweet scent they bring. I also like how floral arrangement allows for relaxation, creativity of expression and zen moments.

Quite coincidentally, the florist L’Oreal invited, Christopher, is the same florist that I learnt floral arrangement from back when I was in JC, so as to enter a floral arrangement competition! 🙂

It was such a pleasure to meet with lovely Leanne at the event who’s always such a dear. Check out her beauty focused instagram @loveforskincare. I am a huge fan of her collages, as they display great use of light and unique eye for aesthetics. <3

~My Review~

I’ve been using L’Oreal Paris EVERSTRONG Thickening sulfate free hair & scalp system for a few weeks now. I can attest that this range of shampoo, conditioner and tonic does a smashing job in fortifying thinning hair and purifying the scalp. I recently had my hair cut as I was finding long hair tough to manage and also getting worried when my hair was dropping quite drastically. I would get a lot of hair dropping whenever I showered and combing my then long hair. However, after getting my hair cut and starting on this hair care range, my hair has thankfully thickened back to normal and my hair loss has decreased. I no longer react to “omg so much hair dropped” in the shower and when I’m combing hair. Even a hair stylist commented just this weekend when I was getting my hair ends curled at a beauty event that I have thick hair, which made me happy! ^^

I am thoroughly loving this hair care range of EVERSTRONG Thickening sulfate free hair shampoo, conditioner and tonic. The shampoo cleanses well, the conditioner does not leave an artificial waxy after feel but rather conditions naturally. This range is unique with their two star ingredients; Rosemary & Mint. Rosemary helps to stimulate hair growth, soothes dry, sensitive scalp and prevents dandruff. While Mint is a well known scalp and follicle stimulant. Using these products in the shower brings a very refreshing feel and scent to my hair and sense. I am very satisfied even long after my shower, knowing how well my hair is cleansed, cared and how good it smells. 😀

Unlike most tonic, this tonic is unique in that it is formulated to be used at the hair roots, to be massaged into your scalp. It is liquid and non oily. I use one spritz and massage from the top of my head and outwards.

Perhaps the only downside to this range of products is that you have to use all three shampoo, conditioner and tonic together to achieve the full desired effect. I always use shampoo and conditioner together (whether with this range or not) because each product has different functions and I tend to have frizzy hair, so conditioner is a must. However my sister commented that when she use the shampoo without the conditioner, her hair and scalp tend to be too drying.

L’Oreal Paris Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner retails at $14.90 for 250ml each, Tonic at $29.90 for 100ml at supermarkets, pharmacies and departmental stores islandwide. I’ve done the math for you, the whole system will cost $59.70. 😉

L'Oreal Paris EverStrong Extraodinary Oil Singapore Enabalista Review

L’Oreal Paris Extraordinary Oil is just as it is named. It is really a superb product. The difference when I apply it on my hair ends compared to when I don’t (on days when I am lazy or in a rush to get out) is remarkable. I do not have a habit of applying hair oil as I tend to find it a hassle and don’t like to have to wash my hands again before I head out. But after using this product, I am now convinced that I have found the solution to frizzy hair and I have found the secret to beautiful hair. I know this sounds damn exaggerating and dramatic, but I kid you not. The reason behind the powers of this oil is due to its flower extracts ingredients: Flax, Tiare, Rose, Lotus, Chamomile and Matricaria. The best part is, the new formulation now comes with UV filter protection, keeping your hair protected from harmful and drying UV rays, keeping it luscious.

Another reason why this hair oil is extraordinary is because its usage is mani-fold. You can use it before you colour your hair, the night before, so that your hair is deeply nourished and well-prepped for colour treatment so that your hair will not be left dry and brittle. Before blow drying. Mix it with your hair mask and as a finishing touch.

I use it as a finishing touch, while my hair is still wet and before blow drying. Just one spritz is sufficient for my whole head’s hair ends and when my hair is dry, it’s smooth and straight the entire day.

L’Oreal Paris Extraordinary Oil retails at $26.90 for 100ml at supermarkets, pharmacies and departmental stores islandwide.

Copper Red Hair Dye @ XpectStudio Review

In the following 3 days,  I’ll be posting several reviews and photos of events in 2013 so I won’t have to bring them over to the new year! :’D

My elder sis won a hair dye voucher worth $100 and she passed it to me for use since she doesn’t dye her hair.

So I paid additional $51 to get my hair dyed!

The results? I loved it! It’s actually been about 2 months, since I dyed it in early November. (I know, I am a huge procrastinator in blogging :P). It’s originally copper red colour but now it’s only copper.

My Spooky Chinese 7th Month Encounter! >.<

Tourists-walk-through-an-alley-decorated-with-red-lanterns-for-the-Lantern-Festival-in-Beijing-on-February-6-2012.-AP-PhotoAlexander-F.-Yuan-650x433
I associated Chinese with Red Lanterns, yes seriously. Image Source: WuDuMedia

So on Tuesday night while on the way home after my dinner with Sandy, just as we were parting which is close to Katong plaza, the one next to Roxy, in between marine parade road and Katong, I got serious creeps that I have never gotten before because there was a mini (1/2 the size of what you’d see the normal stages) ge tai with a toy puppet show and a cast of elderly behind singing and playing Chinese instruments and of course coordinating the puppets.

As you might know by now, I Rebonded my hair (been announcing it on Twitter and Instagram I think) on Sunday so it’s now silky smooth and bounces off my back when I walk.

So as I walked off from the mini ge tai I couldn’t help but look because the entire crew was playing to – get this – no one at all. It was an empty

Audience, but we local Chinese know its not for the living that they are performing.

And as I turned around, I felt like someone or something was brushing against my back.

Logically it is my hair that is bouncing off my back.

But it couldn’t possibly be that l didn’t notice the sensation from the past two days and this one felt different.

If it isn’t my hair that’s causing the sensation – I DON’T WANT TO KNOW!

So immediately I picked up my pace , and I also held my hair in place and walked quickly to my bus top opposite the place.

And I said a quick prayer. As a Christian, I believe that Jesus who is in me is greater than he who is in the world (or netherworld for that matter). And I immediately felt better.

Texted my tummy Sandy and told her the place gives me the creeps! Told her that I’m also gonna avoid all these stages for the entire month! While waiting for the bus to come it started to drizzle…

Have you ever had any spooky encounters before?

New Job, New Hair ;)

Hello!

So today I went to dye and trim my hair to prepare for my new job coming Friday!

20130717-172813.jpg

20130717-172843.jpg

I did it at a hair salon near my place!

And it is very affordable. The lady boss Ai Ling gave me a discount because it was raining and there weren’t many customers. I only paid $40 for this hair colour $20 for treatment totaling $60! Elsewhere it will cost me $120-200 depending where I go! So because Ai ling’s service is great, I asked her if she would like me to blog about it and give me readers a discount. She readily agreed!

For long hair like mine, hair dye is $60.
Treatment is $20.

So dear friends, you get a 20% discount when you quote “JIA EN” when you go down to Ai Ling’s salon! ^^ So for a $80 hair dye and treatment you only pay $74!

Call Ai Ling at 8218 0996 for appointment.

Address is: Blk 27A Chai Chee Road #01-379 Singapore 461027
opening hours: 9am-7.30pm daily.

Additionally, Ai Ling also offers facial at $28 but $25 for my readers !

I have not reviewed her facial before, but I will and let you all know. But if you are keen, her facial includes:
1. Cleansing
2. Pimple and black head extraction
3. Steaming
4. Mask
5. Massage
6. Eyebrow trimming

She has 22 years of experience in facial and hair beauty and it shows in her hair cut for me!

So I would recommended it to you:)

20130717-173946.jpg

This is how the shop front looks like! She’s very fast and can service up to 3 customers at once.. I saw how she services one customer in 10 min for a hair cut.

Alrighty, that’s all for now!

Be beautiful inside & out !

Liese New Jewel Pink Hair Dye Review

Hi!

I’m back! *SO FAST?* You may ask… That’s cause like what the title suggests, in between my travel posts, I’m reviewing Liese’s new Jewel Pink Hair Dye! Thanks to Liese Singapore and the folks at TheSampleStore /EK Media. ^^

I’ve been quite excited over it because I’ve never done hair dye at home by myself before so it’s an entirely new experience for me which I found to be quite fun especially after watching a few video demos on Youtube. *(^u^)*

So… I’ll let the photos do the talkin’!

Ena Liese Hamper

The Liese Jewel Pink Hair Dye arrived in a lovely basket with a hairband and pink rose… I love! ^^

Now for a few photos of my dark brown almost black hair before the dye! 😉 Photo is without any filter.

This photo was “zhenged” (Singlish speak for blinged) using Japanese app DecoPic. Loving the Anna Sui vibe frame! ^^,

Ena Liese Pink Jewel Demo Review 1

Getting ready for the dyeing process! Dressed in a shirt that I’m not afraid to be stained.

Ena Liese Pink Jewel Pack Items

In the box, you’ll find:
1 large hair dye mixture,
1 smaller dark bottle of hair dye for mixin’
1 satchet of hair rinse treatment,
1 foam dispenser cap, 1 pair of gloves,
1 large piece of instruction sheet and 1 additional small sheet of instructions.
Before you begin, it’s important to read through the instructions.
I also suggest watching demo videos found on Youtube, very helpful! 😀
So what’s recommended:
1. to wear an old shirt you won’t mind staining.
2. Dye your hair in an open space as the mixture gives off a hair dye smell which can be choking in an enclosed area.
3. Apply oil based moisturizer on the skin of your face and neck near the hair line, this is to prevent the dye from staining your skin. You can use Vaseline as well. This is not provided in the box.
4. Have tissue and cotton pad or ear buds (also not provided) ready to wipe the foam away from your skin. This is important! Haha, cause confirm will happen.
5. Comb through your hair so that it’s not tangled!
image-1
Here’s a gif of me grinning crazily while I comb my hair…
I have totally upped my game by creating gif files on my blog…. 😛

6. Empty the small dark container into this larger container before capping it and gently turn it for 5 times. They are pretty exact about the number, 5 times! Haha.

Yes, I did a gif for this too. Turn it up and down for 5 times and let the mixture work its

The container does warm up a little after you’re done. Don’t worry about it heatin’ up! 😉
Ena Liese Pink Jewel Demo Review 6
7. When the shaking’s done, change the cap to this foam dispenser head.
8. Now don your surgeon gloves! ^^
No photos for the consequent steps because I couldn’t snap photos with foam in my hands. 😛
9. Squeeze the foam out into your gloved hands before proceeding to apply and massage the foam into your hand beginning from the roots and then the end of the hair…
10. Then you twirl your hair if it’s long and place it into a pile on top of your head and allow it to settle for 20-30 minutes…
Ena Liese Pink Jewel Demo Review 2Here’s one shot with half the amount of foam from the bottle… ^u^
I took the gloves out in order to take this photo. 😛
Ena Liese Pink Jewel Demo Review 4Here’s when I’ve used up as much foam as my hair/head could take…
There was more than enough foam for my beyond shoulder length hair! ^^
Looks like an orange foam towel on my head. 😛
The foam application, massaging and leavin’ it on took me a total of 40 minutes (beyond the recommended 30min) because it took me some time to apply the whole (almost all of it) bottle of foam on my hair/head… I’m guessing if you have longer hair it will take you longer…
Then when you’re done, rinse it off with the sachet of rinse off treatment formula! It’s by Kao Essentials and it smells really really (I cannot emphasize more) ***lovely***
so much so that I think I am going to go get a bottle of Essentials shampoo soon just for the lovely scent they have.
Now for the after dye reveal~~~ *drum rolls*

In review:
I enjoyed the process because it is fairly simple and now that I’ve done it once, I am more confident of attempting it again next time. However, for the first try, I think my hair colour application was not as even as possible, with more dye concentrated at the top of my hair compared to the bottom of my hair, so I think on hindsight it would have been better if I segmented my hair into upper and lower tiers and dyed them from the lower tier up. As for the colour effect i think the before and after colour progression chart on the box is accurate, but the colour isn’t pink at all, I think it’s more accurate to call it orange brown or amber! haha. It is definitely more affordable and time saving compared to going to the hair salon, as it would cost me at least SGD$60 for my hair length and a bottle of Liese hair dye is only $17.90 at a promotional price at Watsons or Guardian. ^^
For more Liese Hair dye colours and information, check them out here.

CLEAR shampoo is famous and touted for its Anti-dandruff shampoo formula (hence the name Clear) therefore I am very happy to bring to you Martin and my reviews of CLEAR Shampoo – New breakthrough in scalp care Nutrim 10 range!

I will present my review in this post and Martin’s review will follow up in the next post! 🙂

First up!

1. Clear Women Ice Cool Menthol

Clear Women Ice Cool Menthol shampoo is a refreshing and revitalizing shampoo. If you like to start and end off your day with a refreshing hair wash, this is what you are looking for! It is suitable for all scalp and hair types and it has an invigorating burst of menthol freshness. Personally I am not a fan of menthol as I find it is too masculine a scent for me. 😛 But if you are a girl that loves her mint, I’d say go for it! 🙂

Next up…

2. Clear Women Anti Hair-Fall

Clear Women Anti Hair-Fall shampoo is my preferred choice between the two! 🙂 Created with Hair Lock Technology, it is suitable for weakened scalp and hair. The shampoo strengthens from the root to tip and increases hair’s defense against hairfall* and breakage. What I love about this shampoo is that it actually smells and feels nourishing! During and after the wash, my hair feels cleansed, smoother and nourished. The scent is lovely and fantastic, I highly suggest test-smelling the product the next time you visit the supermarket. As girls, it is important for us to prevent hair fall so this is a fantastic product! 🙂

Both shampoos retail at leading pharmacies and supermarkets at an affordable price of $9.40 for 350ml and $14.30 for 700ml.

Now we continue on to the Men’s range!

My dear friend Martin is a CLEAR shampoo user, so he gladly accepted my request to review their products on my blog! 🙂

Check out Martin in his usual coolness (I grabbed this pic off his facebook, hahaha).

Before you scroll down… You might want to check that your parents are not peeking over your back because otherwise they will start asking “Why are you looking at pictures of a top naked pretty boy washing his hair?” 😛

Martin’s Guide to a head of CLEAR cool hair!

This is the secret to my cool hair!

First you squeeze a generous amount on your hands…

Then you lather your hair… Now is the time you can style your hair to look like Beckham!

Massage the shampoo on your hair…

Wash it off and feel fresh~

Dry your hair well…

And this is how you will have great looking hair!

Martin’s review: What I like about CLEAR shampoo is that its effective (it’s an anti-dandruff formula) and that it leaves this cooling menthol feeling on your scalp. It’s like rubbing ice cream all over your hair, its pretty awesome. And after you wash it off, you can still feel the minty-tingly sensation and it just makes you feel really fresh.

CLEAR shampoo has 2 ranges, one is ‘Cool Menthol Sport’ and the other is ‘Anti-hair fall’. I’m not old enough to need the second one lah, but the first one really works for me. So for anyone who likes an effective-fuss-free-awesome-feeling shampoo, this is the perfect product.

To end off…

Pre-birthday party preparation angst & is holiday ending so soon? :(

I am half regretting for deciding to have a 21st birtday party. The main concern, as with many things in life, is budget and another is the stupid hair extensions I put today 1) doesn’t meet my expectations, as to where they should be place 2) hurts like crap now cause their skills sucks ttm. It’s a long story but in short, my experience with hair extensions is a pretty bad one. With meeting bad service and bad skills. :(((

No mood to talk about other stuff already. Amongst other things is that I got a sudden realization today that holiday is ending and that I haven’t really been reading up on the fashion books I bought!

Feeling angst-y about many things in life. Sighhh. I blame it on the hormones.
